Agreed on pretty much all points. His monologues sound like they're written as essays, but even as an essay they would need work as he relies too much on assertion rather than the all so crucial critical analysis. Assertion is necessary in any essay, but it's kind of a law of diminishing returns - too much assertion will detract from the overall essay. His overuse of assertion - that's what I mean by the smugness and believing in his own hype. If we also want to subject him to the standard of essays, then we could also talk about logical fallacies, which he appears to think he isn't guilty of, but he is (we're all guilty). I don't mind his honesty, but when he tries to act like he's some sort of Gordon Ramsay of the recording industry or Lewis Black (without any of Ramsay's or Black's humility) it gets a bit cringey.
