Fender Bassman vs Fender Blues Deville?

What's the difference?

I've read some Ebay auctions saying they have the same circuitry. Is this true?

What are their tonal differences?

thanks

Re: Fender Bassman vs Fender Blues Deville?

I hope if you plugged into a couple you could tell the difference right away.

Re: Fender Bassman vs Fender Blues Deville?

I went and looked at some circuits. Believe C and S.
The Blues De Ville is a 6L6GC tube amp with solid state circuitry around the reverb pan.

There are about half a dozen modern bassman circuits. I looked at three, and they all were solid state of different powers.

Of course the early bassman (59) was a very simple, elegant 6L6GC tube amp. If I found one of those on the street, I would sure take it home!

Not if I found it first!
:D

I suppose there are folks over on the FDP forum who could tell you the differences in the circuits ....

I just know that the tone between, say the RI '59, and the DeVille is pretty apparent.

Re: Fender Bassman vs Fender Blues Deville?

Ok, thanks guys. No music stores around here carry any of the Blues models, but they do have the bassman RI. However it's a $1200 amp and the Blues Deville goes for around 500 on ebay. I probably won't buy either one, but I am looking to buy a fender amp sometime this year. (most likely a deluxe reverb, but im open to everything, not necessarily just fenders) Anyway, thanks for the replys

Re: Fender Bassman vs Fender Blues Deville?

well, I can get the new Bassman for $1K

although the Deluxe is a great little amp, it's also a little marginal for gigging, if that's a concern.

on the other hand, a Bassman can be a loud amp!

but, for sure, you need to play a couple amps before you buy

Well thats a good thing cuz i don't gig. ;) I want to be able to break it up in my room without breaking up my eardrums.

Re: Fender Bassman vs Fender Blues Deville?

in that case, look at a Blues Junior while you're looking at DRRIs

Re: Fender Bassman vs Fender Blues Deville?

i thought about that too. you have both don't you? i might just do that, i coudl get close to 300 out of my avt, and get the blues junior for around that too. i wouldn't need to save up any extra money, and that will hold me over for awhile. What do you think of the blues jr? Yours has JJ tubes and a different speaker right? The 15 watts is enough.

i still need to get ahold of that fireball II before i go and buy an all clean amp.

btw, do the hot rod series use a solid state recto?

Re: Fender Bassman vs Fender Blues Deville?

yes, I have a DRRI and a Blues Junior.

my B Jr is a blonde one I got a couple years ago .... JJs and a Jensen C12N RI ... there are clips all over my web site

if you're just playing at home, 15 watts is enough in my book

my only caveat on the current B Jrs is that Scott_F got a newer one, and said it was too bright

I tend to tell people to get the SMALLEST tube amp they can use, rather than the MOST POWERFUL amp that they can afford. I just feel that there are more players who get a big amp, and find out it's just too much, than there are players who can't gig with their small amp. A tube amp's tone is happenin' when the tubes are driven HARD.

Re: Fender Bassman vs Fender Blues Deville?

I know what you mean about the new hot rods being bright, my friend just bought a new Hot Rod deluxe and my first impression was that it was a little on the bright side.

I listened to some of your clips of the Blues Jr and they sound very nice, i'm really considering buying one now. I'll try to find an older one on ebay.

thanks for all your help gary, i really do appreciate it.

Re: Fender Bassman vs Fender Blues Deville?

I love my JJ and celestion blue modded blues Jr. It is good enough for gigging as long as there is only one guitar player, or the other guitar player does not have a JTM45 :banghead: (that's exactly happening to me now)! AND my damn 59RI does not fit into my trunk that easily and is so heavy! :cussing:

But tonally each of them is a keeper.

Cory,
as far as which model to look at, I'd suggest looking over on the FDP forum, since there are a lot of knowledgeable owners over there who can tell you what's what ..... I think the current ones are being made in Mexico, but I'm not sure when they made the switch ..... they've been through about 4 circuit revisions on the B Jr !

Re: Fender Bassman vs Fender Blues Deville?

actually i bought my blues deluxe because it soubded so much like a bassman and took pedals well.... i was considering the 59' bassman but picked up this nice little amp at 320$ instead
