Fender Champion 600?

CTN

The Drama Dude
I've been looking for a little low watt combo for foolin around at home and something with fenderish cleans which I can use for recording.

There's a Champ 600 on CL for $150, with a Weber 6" alnico speaker,

Worth it?

Re: Fender Champion 600?

You'd have to try it out.

I had one. It was alright for a practice amp. Stock the cleans were not that good. Slight improvement with a change to Tung Sols. Not that great for what I play when cranked either.

It's decent if you're into garage rock, but overall the amp had a boxy and dry sound that I couldn't change without a speaker change. With the Weber I couldn't say how good it would be.

It also cooked itself before I could sell it.

Re: Fender Champion 600?

hm...bleh, I might just hold out until I have enough scratch to buy a SuperSonic 22 combo like I wanted

I tried a 600 in the store. Did not impress me at all and I'm a Fender amp guy. I don't get what all the rage is about them online.

Re: Fender Champion 600?

Yeah, nothing special, kinda a boring practice amp... I know TimmyPage on here loved his but they didn't do anything for me.

Re: Fender Champion 600?

I had one and it was not my favorite.

If you're going to go with a small tube amp an 8" speaker is the smallest I would go. Out of a Vox AC4tv, BF Vibro-Champ, a SF Champ, a Valvetrain 205 (Tweed Princeton clone), a Roland Cube, and a Vox SS Modeler (forget the name now), and a Champion 600. The Champion was the worst of the bunch by a heavy majority IMO.

For roughly the same amount you should be able to score a Vox AC4tv or a SF Champ on the used market.

Re: Fender Champion 600?

interesting...what would you say was the best out of that bunch?

Re: Fender Champion 600?

One trick pony, and unlike other little amps, the trick just isn't that good.

I'd take a Mustang I as a practice rig over any micro tube amp ... in fact, I did :)

Re: Fender Champion 600?

cool, thanks for the advice fellas. I'll pass on this one.

I got mine used but in brand new condition from GC FOR $80 plus shipping & tax for a total under $100.. I'm keeping it around for travel or weekends at my GF's place.. At home I use Super Reveb or Jet City stack.. Dont really believe in little amps..

Re: Fender Champion 600?

I've been using an acoustic amp for the last week or so. I have all my other gear all packed away & haven't been able to plug in to anything in almost 3 weeks(talk about withdrawal) I just picked up my Hagstrom from my Luthier with new frets & have been playing it through my Genz Benz acoustic 80 & I must say it sounds pretty awesome!

Re: Fender Champion 600?

It's quite literally one of the worst sounding amps I've ever played. I'd take one for free...and then resell it, but I wouldn't spend a dime on one of them.
