I hate to say it, but my Hot Rod DeVille 212 is frustratingly clean and loud.
It's got so much headroom that I will never hear it break up on the clean channel.
It's so loud that I once knocked a Soviet satellite out of orbit by playing Black Betty with the Master on 4.
I was just about to unload it, but now that my son's older, and I'm thinking about joining / starting a new band, I couldn't live with anything else - it's "cleanliness" is so reliable, i.e. you know it's got headroom up to apocalyptic volume, that I have fallen in love with the constance of that.
HRDeluxe has a 40 watt transformer / circuit, and HRDeVille has a 60 watt transformer / circuit. I have played both and went with the DeVille, not just because of the increased headroom afforded by slightly more wattage, but because I like the way a 2x12 plays in a room better than a 1x12.
All of this is nigh irrelevant because I am talking about my '96 USA DeVille, and I hear the Series III amps are much better...at everything.
