Fender neck on a squier body

I am looking to put a MIM tele neck on my squier 51’ (I believe it is from the vintage modified range). Will the neck fit the body? Will also be getting a new baseplate so was woundering if all baseplate are the same fitting (apart from contoured ones).
Cheers and sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.

Re: Fender neck on a squier body

It will probably fit. The two things to keep in mind are heel shape and heel width. Strats have a rounded heel while Teles typically have a square heel. A Strat neck will work on either, but a Tele neck won't intonate on a Strat because it won't seat all of the way into the pocket. I'm not sure if Squier '51s have a rounded or square heel.

Most Fender necks have a heel width of 2 3/16", while Charvel and some other builders are 2 1/4". A Charvel neck usually won't fit on a Fender, but a Fender neck will often fit on a Charvel. Some import guitars have a non-standard heel width, so you may run into that issue. If you're not sure, just measure the heel on your current neck.
