Fender Schaller Locking Tuners... No love for Squier?

Today, I got a set of Fender Schaller Locking Tuners (the kind with the 3 long and the 3 short posts) and I was just looking for an upgrade to my Squier's tuners and well... They don't work. Let me explain...

I opened the packaging (Top notch plastic bag, let me assure you- oh, and let's not forget the plain white box that just mounts the tuners), took out the tuners and was pretty excited to put them on. I read an old forum post...
https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?t=153965
... Started by Grumptruck and got an idea of what to expect and how to install them.

Installed E-A-D no problem, but then, when I get to the G...

Now... I expected them to be short, but this? C'mon...
Does anyone know of a fix or if there's a brand that'll fit Squiers?

This is a pic-comparison of the new tuners Vs. the old ones...

(The new ones have two posts on them and shorter heads, the old ones were flat and much longer shafts.)

Tomorrow morning I throw on new strings and finish installing my last Hot Rails and the Bridge tone mod. If I could figure out what to do about the tuners, I might have a pretty bad*** Squier.

Thanks guys.

Re: Fender Schaller Locking Tuners... No love for Squier?

you're putting 3/side tuners on a 6inline headstock, and a pretty chunky headstock at that from the pic

exchanging or trading for a 6-in-line set of tuners is ideal;
otherwise you could try using the tallest 2 for the low E and A, and the shortest for the B and high E, but i don't know how it'll work out...

EDIT - sorry, drunk post

They were 6-in line Tuners... I wasn't aware Fender made any other type of set.

they don't.

I dont understand how this could have happened. do me a favor, measure the thickness of that headstock.

Re: Fender Schaller Locking Tuners... No love for Squier?

7/16" at both ends.
On the shorter heads, the string hole opens up at 7/16", before I put on the washer.
And on the longer heads, the spring hole opens up at 11/16".

any way to see those pictures bigger? I'm having trouble understanding this

yeah, let me take a pic of exactly what I mean...
But those pics are the best that I can do, I'm using my phone afterall- a Nokia at that.

Yeah, those short ones are supposed to help even out break angles across the nut. Looks like a thick headstock may be your problem.

I have no idea... SN: CAE0020600362 Headstock just says Squier Strat by Fender

Re: Fender Schaller Locking Tuners... No love for Squier?

Made in China, 2000, Agathis body, Part of a "Strat Pack"
That's what Google gave me

Re: Fender Schaller Locking Tuners... No love for Squier?

Need higher-res photos, even pixelated to see the problem but if it's not the thickness of the headstock then I'm all out of ideas.

That part that the tuning peg holes are of two different widths doesn't sit well with me either...

It's not that they're different widths, it's that the shafts are not long enough.
The headstock is too thick

These photos are the best that I can do with what I have, sorry.

The thickness of the head looks normal at about 1/2 inch in that last photo.

Is there enough room to fit a string through the short ones? If so, that's all you need. You aren't doing any sort of wraps on them. They are locking tuners, they don't even need a full wrap.

7/16" is what I measured out.. Actually, it's 9/16" I was just having a case of the dumb***es when I measured and couldn't read the ruler for some reason.

And that IS the problem, there isn't enough room to fit the tuners. I've already sent them back

Your headstock is normal thickness within a reasonable tolerance compared to all my Fenders, Mexixan, Japanese, American, and Indonesian Squier. Is there enough room to get a string in? That is all you need with locking tuners. They ride very low to the peghead for a reason.

Re: Fender Schaller Locking Tuners... No love for Squier?

If the string hole is above the headstock, then you are good.

Okay, I'm pretty sleep-deprived right now, so I'll blame that for any immediate stupidity.. but here's what it seems like to me...

The two small tiny posts on the side that goes flush against the back of the headstock (opposite of the locking knob, itself) are preventing me from fitting the tuners in. Do they go INTO the wood or just kind of sit there and make the tuner's stand at a funny angle? I've tried putting the tuners through the hole and the screw that goes on top of the tuning peg to hold it in its spot, but because of those pesky posts keep forcing the tuner to tilt and causes the screw to tilt so I can't screw it any further.

Get me? No? Hope so?

Anyways, I'm about tempted to just knock them off, but then my tuners would be rotating like no one's business.
Do I dig them into the wood or do they just stand there?
