Fender Super Amp - any good?

Re: Fender Super Amp - any good?

That's the ones...

I think the cleans are pretty good.

Stock tubes were not great and I have heard from some folks that a speaker upgrade really opens them up but like I said I felt like they were solid sounding amps as-is.

Just curious since you didn't like the cleans...

Hmmm I don't know. I trust you, I'm just saying it didn't sound that great when I played it... but I guess anything could have happened to it... I don't know man.

Hell...don't trust! Trust yourself...that is the ONLY true way to know if something is "good"...

I was just curious because I know you had that other Fender amp for a while and I wanted to make sure you weren't talking about that amp.

That was the super 112. I still do have it. I just had a tube die and haven't invested the money to have it fixed. Were these in the same series?

Re: Fender Super Amp - any good?

cool amp.
upside: channel switching. 4x10. Vintage style speakers.
downside: heavier than a twin but not as much bottom. 4x10. Vintage style speakers.

Those speakers look kinda vintage and cool with the horseshoe magnets and all, but you might find that you will be looking around for something a bit fatter down the track. I dont know about how much amps go for in the US, but 500 bucks it seems like a steal to me. If you eventually need to spring for four chunky speakers, you still have a killer amp for not much dough.

I never played one, because I own a 68 Super Reverb, but this does look pretty cool. Here is some data from Ampwares. At 60lbs its heavy to move in and out of clubs. One of the few negatives I can say about it. Everything else looks pretty good. What I can't seem to locate is whether the tubes are mounted on boards or the chassis. I really prefer them mounted on the chassis but many amp builders are using circuit boards nowadays so I don't think its bad it just depends on how thick the boards are. I have heard of people that have the Deluxe Reverb RI & have had some issues due to the quality of the board. As I said I personally have never experienced any of this just what my amp guy has told me.
