Fender Vibrolux Reverb combo...what are they like?

One on ebay and I'm contemplating it during my clean Fender combo shopping.

Was also looking at a bassman clone, deluxe, and a twin. High end Fender cleans!

How would a Vibrolux Reverb compare?

I have a '70 silverface Fender Vibrolux Reverb that was passed down to me and it's a pretty cool Fender.

If you're looking for pure clean tone, you'd probably be better off with a Twin. The Vibrolux Reverb with lower powered speakers usually breaks up around 4 on the volume. After that it starts to compress and you start to get that loose Fender overdrive at just about any point after that (not necessarily bad if you're a blues player). With some Celestion Vintage 10s, it stays together until literally 7-8 on the dial and can get decently loud at that setting.

The blackface Vibrolux Reverbs are all about that breakup, so you'll never get those suckers to stay clean. The silverface ones were made to keep those cleans a bit longer. Vibrolux Reverbs have pretty spanky clean tones and you have to be reserved about the bass because it can be overpowering on these amps.

Vibrolux Deluxe are nice amps

Super Reverb is better

I have the modern 'custom' Vibrolux reverb, and it's a cool amp. Stock it's designed to start overdriving early for overdrive at club-friendly levels. I personally prefer it to pretty much anything fender makes in it's non-custom shop range. I'm moving mine shortly, due to my new Victoria coming in and slaying. But I still really like the amp, and I'll be replacing it with a hand-made clone in a while.

If you want max cleans go for a Twin reverb, Dual Showman, Quad, Super 6, etc...those are 85-100 watt monsters that will stay clean until you start to go deaf, that said a Vibrolux reverb has a great clean sound but those amps are not cheep...even a BF or SF Bassman head with the right cab can have a great clena tone, Super Reverb is a good choice as well
