Fender VS Traynor

Re: Fender VS Traynor

Traynor can do decent distortion can't it???

(Sorry to hijack, but I LOVE your Ken theme!)

Re: Fender VS Traynor

I know Brisk has one, I believe he said it was a 40w? Anyways ask Brisk.

Re: Fender VS Traynor

depends on what you'll be using it for. My reccomendation is get a fender tube off ebay & buy whatever pedals you find necessary, but i don't know your budget, or what you need it for, so its hard to say

Re: Fender VS Traynor

My dad has a late 60's fender amp... my mom has a mid 70's Traynor head... both are 100wat peak I think. I prefer the Traynor, more of a marshall sound, but bass guitars sound wicked through the Fender. (We split the signal and send the low and mid frequencies to cabinets).

:) :) :)

I just want PRISTINE clean tone to put pedals in front of. I used to be an "amp distortion is best" guy, but then I got my Carvin, which is based on a Fender/Mesa mix, and the PERFECT tone for me is a Boss Drive Zone running the front end of it's Bright channel. So I just need excellent cleans (yes, I play clean stuff too :) ) that works well with OD/Distortion pedals.

Re: Fender VS Traynor

The traynor has a great clean channel. I also suggest you look at the peavey classic series. A slightly different clean channel, but amazing none the less. I own a classic 50 212 and love it to death, if fender cleans are more your thing, a simple modification changing the value of the bass capacitor is all that is needed to bring a fender type sound to the amp. Without the mod, the cleans are great anyway, they are just not fender style, more of a peaveys own style which is great. I prefer a blend of the 2 with a .33mF cap instead of peaveys .22mF and fenders .47mF. I believe wattage owns a peavey classic as well, so maybe hell chime in some more. I think peaveys are some of the best sounding amps for the buck and even out of their price range.
Good luck,
Brian

Re: Fender VS Traynor

For cleans, you simply can't get better than a Fender Twin (well, a Matchless Chieftain, but that's in a whole 'nuther league). It's the perfect clean slate for effects.

Why not save up some more and get something more versatile than just a one trick pony?

Rivera would give you both that Traynor- Marshall like vibe and you'd get great cleans as well. If you really wanted to invest in something great, look at a Bogner Shiva or my Triamp or an ENGL. All of these brands offer great cleans and killer distortion.

I remember playing an ENGL Straight amp and even though it was a little combo, it could shred like you wouldn't believe and had incredible cleans. For your style Biu, it would be perfect. There are tons of different ENGLs in different price ranges so I'm sure if you search around you can find a great one for the right price.

A Soldano wouldn't be bad either.

It's not that there's anything wrong with just a Fender or Traynor. They each do something very well. It's just that nowadays you can get an amp that does both very well and at a decent price. If you love good cleans, but you also need that killer sustaining solo tone (that I know you'd love for your cover songs), you owe it to yourself to look into some of the amps I've listed. Trust me, you won't be disappointed :)

P.S. Ken was my favorite Street Fighter and that theme song brought a tear to my eye :D

Re: Fender VS Traynor

I think I will stick with getting a Fender. I'm on a pretty low budget, so I dunno if going boutique would even be possible. Where could I get an ENGL, and how cheap are the cheapest models? Maybe if the price is right, I'll think about it, but I'm pretty sure about getting a Fender and ODing the front end of it.

Re: Fender VS Traynor

You can get a 70's silverface fender twin for like $500. Most people think that the reverbs better on the silverface models anyway. Then you can mod it to blackface specs to make it sound better. The only bad thng about the twin is that you get a high pitched shreek when you run your hand across the strings really fast(i think this will get fixed by the mod.) Otherwise it sounds good.

heres a link to the mod

Biu, what's the price range you're looking at?
Preferably up to $500-$600

Illini1330, I'll try to get a Twin if I can find one, but they're are going for fairly big $$$ :yell: I guess that's natural for a legendary amp though.

Re: Fender VS Traynor

I got traynor 40W 1X12 for $420 while ago. Great amp for strat/tele with single coil pickups. Clean/OD channels are good enough for anything except for heavymetal. BTW, I upgraded tubes (NOS) and speakers (weber).

Cheers

Re: Fender VS Traynor

Biu, perhaps a Peavey Classic 30 would be something to look into?

It's cheaper than that range. It also has great cleans and a good distortion. That's probably the best amp you can get for the cash. The sound is good, much better than others in it's area so I'd recommend that.

If you don't like the Peavey (don't know if you've ever tried one before), then the Traynor sounds like a good alternative.

heres a few. I don't know how legit they are, or if you even like ebay. Personaly, I wouldn't do ebay cause you really don't know what ure getting. Also check local shops. I found two silverfaces for 500 one time. Two differen't shops, same day, and within a mile of eachother. I got one of 'em lowered to $450, too.

I'll bookmark the second and third ones. They seem to be from pretty good sellers. Thanks for taking the time to find them for me!
As far as I have seen, there are no used Twins around here for a decent price, everything is extremely overpriced. :yell:
