Filling a collection gap…
As of late I’ve been feeling that I need to swap a bunch of guitars around & fill a “hole” in the collection or working instruments and I’m totally lost for the first time in years. I’m thinking that I want to end up with 6-7 instruments that can cover just about anything I’d encounter on a regular basis.
The idea is to end up with something ENTIRELY different then anything I already own. Maybe to find my unique voice as a player (yeah right! LOL) but more so that its just something I want to reach for & play all the time because it IS different.
Right now the collection includes;
’02 LP flame top w/ Duncan Alnico II’s
’03 LP double cut w/P90’s (stock)
’86 Custom Shop Melody Maker w/ a “period correct” ‘bucker
’05 Eric Johnson Strat
’03 Schetcer USA Tele w/ an Alnico II, SSL whatever & an SM1
’93 Hamer Diablo (24-fret shred bolt-on w/Floyd); PATB & Jazz
’04 PRS Swamp Ash Special w/ C5/ Vintage Rail & Jazz
There’s also a Dan-O baritone; Alverez acoustic (6-string, spruce & rosewood deal); and various other bits like the guitars for sale in my sig right now…but the ones above are the “core” of the trove.
I’m thinking that some sorta semi-hollow might be the way to go. If I don’t do that…I’m going to end up with something ENTIRELY different like a mandolin or lap-steel. I might also just sell the guitars I have & cash out but somehow I doubt it!
The forerunners are;
~Thinline Tele; Either Fender ’69 Mexi modded to hell or a Warmoth deal. Most likely will be loaded with a Little ’59 or “stock” overwound Tele bridge pickup & Filtertron neck.
~Epiphone Sheraton II; found a new one that I was really diggin’ on until I picked up a new $2500 335. The Epis still cool & I think I’d be happy with it for a long long time…but it DOES sound “plinky” next to the ‘real deal’ which is more nasal in a good way. Playability was almost equal…setups would even ‘em out.
~Schecter, Fender or other electric 12-string. I played a 2-bucker Schecter the other day that I was really diggin' and I don't own a 12-string...
~Another acoustic of some type.
I want to keep it to under $1K but other then that I dunno. There's no set criteria right now.
I produce & mix records for a living...the guitars I have get used on gigs & for my own writing but they also get pressed into battle on other peoples records so it's nice to have things that other people aren't going to have...like a Thinline Tele w/Trons...
LOL
