Finally got around to taking pictures of my gibson nighthawk.

Xeromus

Tone Ninja
A very unique guitar made by Gibson. Discontinued quite some years ago. This one is a '93. I bought this one from big_black. You can get some really convincing strat and tele tones out of it, which is odd judging from it's appearance. The neck took some getting used to for me because the nut width is 1 5/8" and the scale length is 25.5" like a fender, plus the neck back profile is fat and round. I usually prefer a wider, flatter neck. It's also string through body with a fender style bridge. Very cool guitar. For a while I didn't know if I was going to keep it, but it's by far one of the, if not the best sounding guitar I've ever played.

I'm more of a blueshawk fan, but man those are sweet guitars! I got to play a blueshawk for a few months when it was in the local guitar shop here...and man, what a cool sounding guitar...love the varitone switch

Re: Finally got around to taking pictures of my gibson nighthawk.

yeah this has got a 5 way switch so the mini hum and slanted hum also split. Pretty cool sounding. Very versatile. I've never been able to say I could play any genre of music well on a single guitar but I can on this one.

Re: Finally got around to taking pictures of my gibson nighthawk.

I thought that looked familiar! So I take it you are getting some good tones out of the bridge 'bucker? Split it sounds awesome, but it took some dialing in when the pickups was in series...at least for me. Glad you like it!

Re: Finally got around to taking pictures of my gibson nighthawk.

I actually really like the bridge bucker tone. It's open sounding and very strong in mids. It sings very nicely with some gain.

Just what I'd expect from a ninja. Very nice.

Hmmm. I have a sunburst Nighthawk SP2 but, while it is a guitar with great looks and feel, I haven't been able to apply its unique tones to the blues, blues-rock genre I love to play. I guess I'm just a die-hard strat fan... I ought to dust it off and give it another go.

That red color is gorgeous! Congrats!

The split bridge 'bucker IS a Strat tone!

True. It is the one I liked the most too. Similar in that it is bright, clear and thin. But just imho more akin to a tapped JB, or closer to a strat bridge than to strat neck or middle pup.

Still a great guitar, and as I said, the thread has reminded me to dust off mine and play it again. Thanks!
