Finally played my first toooob amp!

Re: Finally played my first toooob amp!

I say go for it man. I just made the switch from solid state (a Line 6 just like you) to a tube amp (fender blues junior). I'm really enjoying it. I liked my Line 6 too until I played a tube amp then it just always sounded very thin and digital to me. Make the change, you won't be dissapointed!

Don't forget to check out the Reverend Goblin and Kingsnake (and used Hellhounds). Great bang for the buck.

Carvin's got some classic-y tube amps that don't cost a bundle, either.

Oh, and by the way, all you Traynor fans: If you want BLUE...

YOU GOT IT!

tube amps have always been my favorite. but i sold mine and bought one of the vox valvetronix 60 watt heads i must say i liked it better than i thought i would. but in the end it had to go and i traded it to a friend of mine for his peavey claasic 50 4x10. besides buying my tele its the best gear change i have made in along time.

yeah i've been eyeing those ycv's also, mainly the ycv20's. i don't need that much power, i just need something to be loud enough to do band practice with, so i'll probably end up getting a 1x12. man, i can't wait to get one of my own!

It's not necessarily a question of power but rather a question of the tone you're looking for. The YCV20 is a EL84 Class A amp (think Vox AC30), the YCV40/80/80Q are 6L6 Class A/B (think Fender) and the YCV50 is EL34 Class A/B (think Marshall).

Technically, all those amp will be loud enough to play with a drummer, but they will all sound slightly different, and usually the higher powered one will have a better bass response.

Also the point of the 20w version is to get more overdrive out of the power tubes, but if you play metalish music, you would probably prefer a higher powered amp with more headroom to get your tight distortion from the preamp instead. I remember using a power soak with a YCV80 to cook the power tubes and it wasn't that great (although the power soak isn't that great anyway imo).
