Firebirds: Only made by Gibson?

I love the Firebird guitar and i wonder if Gibson is the only one that makes them on the market today? Has anyone tried and maybe compared the different 'birds they offer today?

Re: Firebirds: Only made by Gibson?

Good question man. Other than Gibson & Epiphone, I've never seen any. The other guitarist in my band wants one but he's like me and broke as hell. If you know of one that's fairly affordable, I'd be interested in knowing who does 'em.

Eastwood guitars makes thier version of the original Non-Reverse Firebird called the Stormbird.

Just scroll down the side menu until you see the picture of it.

Dillion also makes them. And there have been a few by Heritage.

Fret King also has a cool interpretation. It blends design elements of the Strat, Firebird and Explorer. It's called the Esprit.

Re: Firebirds: Only made by Gibson?

A firebird is a strange guitar and has some pretty odd details. I think that the mahogony wings add alot, as does the neck through construction, which would eliminate a lot of other companies' versions. Epiphone makes one, but I've never played it. Actually, I don't know too much about firebirds from first hand experience, I just love them. Not too many to grab and play around here.

Is it okey getting a Gibson Studio or will people throw cabbage at me?

I think JeffB either had or has a firebird studio, you might want to wait for him to chime in on that one.

I may throw cabbage at you if you buy one, but that's out of pure envy and jealousy :fing25:

But seriously, it's not our opinion that counts. It's yours :)

Re: Firebirds: Only made by Gibson?

I mean, is it the same thing as the other more expensive models? I know it has humbuckers instead of mini-'buckers

Re: Firebirds: Only made by Gibson?

GMP made them, ESP also made them during the 80s and I'm not sure if they did in the 90s...it was called the "phoenix."

I'll try to find a pic...

sheesh that took forever...lol

Here's one from the 80s:

And here's a custom that a guy in a European band has:

I believe Robin Crosby of Ratt used to play Jacksons with a Firebird shape.
