Firebirds: Only made by Gibson?

Re: Firebirds: Only made by Gibson?

GMP made them, ESP also made them during the 80s and I'm not sure if they did in the 90s...it was called the "phoenix."

I'll try to find a pic...

sheesh that took forever...lol

Here's one from the 80s:

Man, if that was a TOM, that would be pretty cool. Do you know if it has the multi ply neck through with seperate wings?

Tokai makes a real nice firebird copy and its around $350. That ESP model is very nice I played one and it has SD customs in it.

I know they were neck-throughs, probably a 3-piece maple w/mahogany wings. They could be alder too, I'm not sure.

The Gibsons are the only "real" Firebirds, IMO. The Jacksons are no longer being made. They were nice, but pretty much a hotrod. Yes, Robin Crosby did play those in the early 90's. I've played a Firebird VII and was floored by it. Absolutely incredible instrument with amazing balance, not just tonally but weight-wise. I had a blast playing it but had to put it up before my wallet jumped out...LOL. I'd really like a Studio. JeffB "had" one and sold it earlier this year. I was really close to jumping on it but other financial priorities came up. The Studio is set-neck, the V and VII are neck through with wings and a maple raised center.
