First real studio client

Re: First real studio client

What did you actually do for this one? Just track guitars, or drums/bass/vocals?

I'm digging it, overall! Drums need a good bit of work IMO, but those guitars sound really cool!

Did everything, recordedwise, I didn't play anything. Do tell about the drums. First suggestion is gonna be bring down the overheads for sure.

Re: First real studio client

OH's down for sure, more eq/comp on the acoustic drums, especially the toms - they sound kinda dead. They need a good bit of verb, too - just enough to give a sense of space.

Kick sounds super raw, could be the sound you're going for though. I'd suck the mids out of it and boost the top end.

Re: First real studio client

I haven't been following your studio work. Do elaborate. What space do you have and what gear do you use? (I do this sort of stuff myself so you don't have to go too in depth).

The raw sound you've got so far is really good. Especially the guitars. Bass growls nicely.

The mix could be a little "wider" if you get what I mean.

I suggest what VK said and adding some 8khz to the kick, or removing just a touch of the ultra low end and bringing it up. I think you could use some compressor on it as well as the snare so they sound a little more consistent. Is the rhythm guitar double-tracked or just one track?

I'm not digging it - snare sounds a bit better but incredibly small.

The low end just sounds like mud, especially on that double bass section. No real definition at all - did you hype the crap out of the kicks low end?

Opposite actually....I don't like it much either. Goin back to the other.

Re: First real studio client

Make some deep cuts at about 200hz and about 900-1300hz on the kick, boost the top end a bit. You need some more 'click' in it to get some definition.
