Floyd Rose FRX?

BloodRose

Professional Scapegoat
Anyone tried one? I did today! Was mounted on a 2917 Gibson V.. Was not beautiful to look at, but worked quite well and the guitar had awesome sustain!! I was impressed with both the guitar and the trem. Was for sale used at GC. Comes with hard case and dirty fingers. Sweet!! To bad doesn't have the orig bridge..

Re: Floyd Rose FRX?

Never have but I want to, just to check it out. I'm with you on the orig bridge....I do like the Schaller finetuner tailpiece though.
What model V was it?

Re: Floyd Rose FRX?

I'm guessing it was the traditional. White with Grover keys, dirty fingers, but the v looked alittle smaller ( tighter tween the points) .

Re: Floyd Rose FRX?

Right on man, yea they have like 4 different V's in production this year, perhaps more...
Those FRXs seem pretty stout, meaning they seem heavy. What did you think of the weight? Did it balance OK, or were you sitting down?

Re: Floyd Rose FRX?

I'm out of town with visiting my ill mom. Will pinpoint the model for you when I get home and can use my comp and not my phone. Yes, played sitting down.. the system is very solidly built, but I don't think it was a boat anchor. I held the guitar and turned over several times and all.

Re: Floyd Rose FRX?

Fair enough and yeah I'm interested in hearing more of what you thought of it so when you get time...
Hope your Mother feels better, I'm sure having you there is making it much easier on her.

Re: Floyd Rose FRX?

Curiosity had the best of me. Flying V2017 T. I knew I was right.. That one comes with hard case, and grenadillo board. The sales guy told me the orig buyer bought case separately .. and argued with me that the board was rosewood. I could tell by the coloring it was grenadillo.. It plays great and sustained amazingly, and pinch harmonics are so easy.

Re: Floyd Rose FRX?

I toyed with fitting one to my Fret-King Esprit a couple of years ago. Unfortunately I wasn't able to try one beforehand and ultimately I bought a cheap superstrat with a OFR to satisfy those needs, so I retained to original bridge. I'd still like to give one a try though.

Re: Floyd Rose FRX?

I like the Flying VT the best out of what's offered, but I also like the Faded V only because it has the full face pickguard, which the others don't, strangely... I'm sure the '67 V is due to make a comeback in the next year or so. Seems they replace models in that manner all the time I guess to keep it "fresh"??
How about a '67 V with a reverse Explorer headstock?? Why isn't that an option? They have everything there already...oh well...

Re: Floyd Rose FRX?

Reverse explorer or ever regular would be killer!! I've always loved Aldo nova's lol with the explorer headstock

Re: Floyd Rose FRX?

Needless to say, I bought that v... can't pick it up till next week cuz of the hold.. was in great shape, several hundred less than new, and had the Floyd.. whether I keep it or not, it was an expensive upgrade and adds value to the deal. I don't care for the look, but it works and the axe sustains like crazy, even having the tremolo

In my experience the notion that vibrato tailpieces kill sustain kills sustain is pure myth. Cheap crappy vibrato tailpieces kill sustain.

Re: Floyd Rose FRX?

Congrats on the new guitar! Can you post some pics later on? I have a Dean V that would benefit from this, but I wonder how the FRX would look on it...

Re: Floyd Rose FRX?

So you put your name on that bad boy, congrats to you man! I hope once you get it home and spend time with it, it turns out to be a good guitar for your style and setup. Sometimes that is a gamble, but in this case one definitely worth taking!
What color, ebony?
Any preconceived notions on a pickup swap already? Obviously you'll give the stocks pups a good go around first, and they even be too good to mess with for now. But curiousity always comes knocking...haha!

Its white.. Wanted an ebony one for years, to match the explorer, but, also like white cuz makes me think early Hetfield... And the white one was avail at a good deal, soooo...
Id have changed the pups lickety split normally with gibson pups, but the Dirty Fingers sounded pretty good in the store.. Have to run em thru my amp awhile and see.
