Floyd Rose Guitars

Just saw Bon Jovi on the Live8 consert and Richie Sambora was playing one of the new Floyd Rose guitars.

They are kinda strange looking with the hollow headstock without the tuners, but the "Speedloader" system seems like a good idea.

Anyone played one of these, or have any experience with the "Speedloader"?
Or is it just a new take on the design of the Steinberger guitars?

Re: Floyd Rose Guitars

I couldnt be f***ed to have to go out and buy another different set of strings specifically for only one of my guitars. I'll go with the tried and true method, clamp em and go.

Re: Floyd Rose Guitars

Is it possible to use alterante tunings? I would think it would be hard with just the fine ajustment knobs.

Re: Floyd Rose Guitars

I saw a couple at GC Hollywood last weekend and decided to try them out.
The necks feel like Charvel Jackson type profiles. Wide/thin. One thing I didn't like was that the neck is sunk pretty deep in the pocket, so the strings ride low over the body, into the countersunk Floyd tremolo. It's a very fast playing shredder type of guitar. The strings have a 'bullet' on each end, like a Steinberger string. Looked like a pain to find strings, if you're at a store that isn't hip to this new guitar. What happens if they're discontinued.....could you still find strings?

Re: Floyd Rose Guitars

They are great, and even though they look like toys they arent, they´re pretty handy when it comes to change strings... and tuning the strings come with the exact length that matches the strings tuning.

i dont think its possible for alternate tunings since the strings are made to be a certain length. maybe like down to e flat, but probably nothing more radical besides that.

Re: Floyd Rose Guitars

no problem if the model would be discontinued, becuase they still make the speed loader style tremolo.

Re: Floyd Rose Guitars

I was surprised he was using 1, he's been using a lot of vintage instruments recently.

Re: Floyd Rose Guitars

i have a speedloader on my 04 NJ Beast. it's actually a great thing imo. Ok,you can't detune but hey i'm using 4 different guitars on stage ,so why bother?but it's really great to change strings on a trem in about 2 minutes.
