Flying V body transplant

I got a Flying V copy but I have decent hardware on it (Kramer by Gibson pickups, wilkinson tuners etc)

But the neck while straight would need a bit of work to make it tidy. The fretboard to neck joint is not the best. I could rub it down and refinish or I could get a Flying V diy kit....

The mahogany ones are very expensive, even though I can see the hardware and pickups are cr4p, still around £200 or more! Ash and basswood look to be good value.

I am looking to darken the tone a bit but still a decent upper mid presence. - I find the alder body and bolt on maple neck make for a very bright guitar even with the pole pieces screwed right in!

The pickups are the USA made Kramer badged Gibson 498T and 490R. ( ALNICO 5 bridge ALNICO 2 neck stamped Kramer made in USA 98T and 90R respectively) - I have no intention of changing the pickups, I like them and I just use my tone knob if it's a bit bright.

So wood recommendations please-

I am liking the look of this mahogany Albert King style V with Les Paul headstock:
