Flying V Glory

Re: Flying V Glory

Nice guitar.

I don't have a "pure" V. I just have an ML, which is half V, half Explorer.

My favorites are the original issue '50's ones. I'd like to build a green one some day.

Re: Flying V Glory

This is a very good thread for me because lately I got very interested in Flying Vs (and prefer the original design with strings through the body)

The only time I played a Flying V (years ago and without strap) I just thought "****, you just cannot play it without a strap." But now I grow fascinated by its design.
And also I am wondering how different korina is from mahogany.

So a question for Flying V's owners :

For how many for you it is your favorite guitar or one of your faves ?
Do you like it for the shape or for the sound and feel ?

Anyone hated it ?

And lastly anybody tried SD Black Winters on korina Vs ?

Re: Flying V Glory

This is a classic Schenker pose, and an awesome V, but he always looks like he is trying to hold a turd in.

It looks like Michael needs some KISS diapers to go poppy in.;)

Korina feels like it weights half as much, it doesn't but it is noticeably lighter. Has more bite the most hog, but is still in the same ballpark and sounds big and open.

The V is my favorite shape to play standing up without a doubt. 100% unfettered access to all the frets, no weird upper bout or horn sticking in your belly, and the three in a line knobs with the selector in front is my favorite control layout ever. Sitting down you have to use a classical position but it's not to bad unless you're a recliner slug. I think a LP has more potential for usable sustain but that's about it. There really is no downside to a V, plus it comes with it's own built in guitar stand.

I have no experience with Black Winters other than I think the neck sounds killer when split coil in this video.

Re: Flying V Glory

i dunno bout black winters nor korina Vs but a Dimebucker sounds 100% killer on any V

Re: Flying V Glory

My 2 V's........both very traditional in shape.

The 'Korina' looking one is actually made from different woods that just look similar to white Korina (as well as being very light!) It is made to every vintage spec I had tools and materials for.......including tinting the nitro clear using UV.

The other is a scaled down version (both body size and scale length of 24") which is partially neckthrough. "partially", as the neckthrough ebony blank wasn't thick enough to do the full body, so has another piece glued on at the back.

Good ol' Ibby V-Blade. D-Activator neck and X2N bridge. Nice and pointy.

Re: Flying V Glory

This is for when you're done effin around and need to kick some @ss, this thing with a RAT and a JCM800 nails the late 80's early 90's metal vibe. It might be my best choice for C# thunder.

Eh?

Ebony NECK, not fretboard-neck but neck-neck?

Don't think I've ever seen it done... what's it sound like?

I hear you on the Red & Black Gene. So cool - yet somehow so wrong for Schenker....yet still so cool. I had to go classic though. Little Red Hair Girl approved color scheme!
