Or possibly that moded marshall tuning on jack daniels soaked tubes :laugh2:Stratcat said:Slash gets his tone from all tube Marshall amps and Jack Daniels. :laugh2:

The Soldano/Caswell motorized midi preamp? I think that's the same guy.
The funny thing about that story is that there was hundreds of killer modded Marshalls floating around Hollywood at that time. There were at least 10 popular techs who were hotrodding Point to Point Marshalls back then. I've heard all these stories about Caswell, Lee Jackson, Jose Arredondo, Alan Cear (Amp Shop), and Doug Roccaforte.
Those modded Marshalls have always been a passion of mine, and I've owned several really good ones. Sometimes when I see collectors selling amps on Ebay, saying they've been restored back to stock, it almost bums me out, since they may have made a killer sounding Marshall sound worse.

Gearjoneser said:I remember during that time (mid-late 80's) that Lee Jackson was running his advertisements on KNAC and KLOS rock radio stations in LA. There'd be this ominous voice describing how his mods were "BUILT TO BLAST." In the background, you'd hear Paul Gilbert playing riffs and scary sweep arpeggios. It's pretty funny that the idea of modding Marshalls for 'metal gain' got so popular, Lee Jackson actually had radio ads for it!

Hmmm... You and Christian got me thinking...theodie said:I have a Slash sig and I am Jonesing (no pun intended) for a modded Plexi!!!
BTW, I was wondering why I couldnt nail Slashes tones with just the 2555SL. Some of the tones I couldnt get close to with it.

What do you think would be a better bet: modding a 1987 Reissue Plexi head, or a JCM 800 2203/4?
