Re: For Slash fans.....long post.
Yeah, I understand your point.
So long as the amp can get as much gain as on Appetite for Destruction, I'm all set. I'm not a gain freak, and I'm upgrading from a crappy AVT 50, so anything will be a major improvement. As you know, my favorite bands dont use extreme gain settings (STP, GnR, stuff like that).
I guess it comes down to price then, if there wont be a major difference in tone between the 1987 and the 2203/4
the guy who invented fire said:well the JCM 800 2203 is the JCM 800 version of the JMP 2203 which cam out in 1975...they were Marshall's first Master Volume amp...I much prefer a Plexi head or a pre 1975 JMP...I want my Marshall to have 4 imputs and no factory master volume. The stock master volume makes the pre-amp crunch a post phase inverter type will let the power amp wprk hard and make some power amp crunch as well...it's just a better design and IMO sounds better.
IMO, by about 1975 Marshalls just lost something...I much prefer the 74 and earlier amps, as for which is better, it's matter of opinion...I wopuld much rather have a 1987x. Keep this in mind though...you guys are all talking about really hot rodding the amp in question, I just want a good master volume to get crunch with out loosing my hearing.
