Forgotton how good the Explorer is.....

I hate not having a guitar room.. Many of my axes are kept in storage a couple hours away. I rotate em out from time to time as I dont have space (dont have an understanding spouse mostly) for more than a couple at a time. I think thats part of why Im always GASSING for stuff too, cuz I forget what awesome tools I have. (Yeah, I admit, Im also a gear Wh-re and would GAS anyhow, but...) I got the Explorer (my mistress) out of the mothballs. Put some fresh D'addarios on her and covered her in sweat yesterday.. Man, I forgot how good it sounded and was brutal thru the Splawn.. Im sure my neighbors really appreciated it... heh heh heh... I have alittle out of favor with 59s in the neck as of late, (Since my Charvels have Jazz's but I have an A4 mag in the 59b in the neck of the Ex and it sounded so sweet.. Reminded me of what a great axe that is and how much I love it.. Just feel bad for drowning the poor thing..

Too many awesome Explorers being posted! lol

Always nice to re-discover an awesome guitar you own...better than shelling out bucks for one! :D

Re: Forgotton how good the Explorer is.....

Why not ride that wave of euphoria and record something?

Re: Forgotton how good the Explorer is.....

if my wife tried to limit my guitars i wouldn't have a wife. It looks to me that you have plenty more space next to those other two cases.

My ibby destroyers are the ****

Dont have means to record. Have a cassette recorder, but that wont work here. Besides, Im too novice.. be embarrassed to put anything up here.

Ditch the spouse, live with your guitars.

Heckuva an idea.. only nagging would be ... play me , no play me..

Yeah, exactly why I posted. Was like wow, nice and she's mine..

Picture taken at old house we used to own.. no longer there. And truth be told, there is an extra bedroom in the current place, but she doesnt want it cluttered with guitars.. I caught a bun chewing when she found the 2 hidden in the closet... hee hee

Re: Forgotton how good the Explorer is.....

Take care Bro, I remember part of the reason you had retired her was the weight and how it affected your back.

That said, yeah, she looks amazing. And a +1 to not liking the 59n, I think Seymour got it right the first time (Jazz).

And yeah, she's still as awesome looking as ever.

Enjoy her in good health man!!! :headbang:

Best sounding Gibson I ever played was an Explorer. That one looks nicer.

Thanks Bro! Yeah, the back is at the point that I pretty much can only stand an play for about 5-10 minutes. Im losing some weight and gonna try to get my core strengthened up..

The jazz sometimes sounds too sterile to me tho... the 59b with the A4 in this one is tasty tho!

Looks great!!

Thnks!

Thanks! yeah, it sounds huge!

Re: Forgotton how good the Explorer is.....

I love my Explorer, but I rarely, if ever play it. I put Phat Cats in mine, and it sounds killer!!

Re: Forgotton how good the Explorer is.....

Same here John.. Been my dream guitar for years cuz of the shape. I love the way it plays, the beefy tone. have a 59b/4 in the neck and Custom8 in the bridge. But I rarely play it cuz the weight hurts my back and the case is so huge, its hard for me to store and stuff. But whenever I reconnect with it.. WOW!! One of these days I want to get an skb case for it..

Re: Forgotton how good the Explorer is.....

lol....yeah, the cases are huge. When you open one of them up it takes up plenty of space.

This is my beat-up '96 Explorer, loaded with a Custom & Jazz; I just might have to look into a smaller case for it. I've tried to use other guitars as my #1 over the years, but it just hasn't worked out. My 335 is a really close second, but I'm a little uneasy that such an expensive guitar might be stolen if I took it to a gig. That's the one area where I like the gigantic case, it'd be slightly difficult to sneak out the door with that aircraft carrier under your arm. Lately I've sort of been GASing for another one as I'd love a mahogany Explorer with a Kahler, but I don't think I could bring myself to cut up this one.

Re: Forgotton how good the Explorer is.....

Yeah, Id love to have one from the 80s with no pickguard and a kahler..Been tempted to grab one of the Epi 84s. (I think the model is) Like the white one!

Re: Forgotton how good the Explorer is.....

Same here, I have been GASsing for one for years, just couldn't justify the expense, I already have 8 guitars where two are permanently in storage and 6 that are rarely played anymore due to various reasons. I have been improving on that lately but now my newly freed up time means even less of a justification...
