Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

In my dreams and on paper...a 43AWG or 42.5AWG(is this possible?)11-12kish - Slightly Mismatched Coils - Alnico II - Double Creme Coils W/a cover on the side:) - Potted - 4 Conductor Hookup -PAF slug/screw coil config.

That would be a "Custom Gates" and would be a sort of rude yet smooth in between The PAF types and Custom Types... maybe a little bright and screamy in a good way...but thats just what i think it would be like...

Probably the best pickup ever in my head...When i one day call up the custom shop ill get this or a 78' :)

-Brian

something all players would enjoy I thinks...

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Considering all the Tele players on the Forum, Maybe it should be a Tele pickup? Like a Hot Broadcaster style bridge? Or maybe a lil'pearly gates for tele or something? Or maybe a Fullsized Bucker thats made to sound like a tele bridge pickup (ya know so even non-tele lovers can enjoy the beauty that is a Tele bridge pickup)?

I dunno. Anyways...

Whatever is decided, I'm in as long as I got the funds at the time (which I do but who knows about tomarrow, haha). I'de hate to miss out on this sorta thing again.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Make a bucker with the specs of a Jaguar s/c and a Mustang s/c combined!! Make it 4-conductor

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

bridge/middle/neck single = late 60's-70's sounding Set, ala Hendrix, Trower, Blackmore, Roth

if possible, noiseless.

youd have a customer for somethin like that!

BUT

the lil '78, sounds like one HELL of an Idea!

my only issue is, I always thought that the "lil" series was rather ugly

so if you could retain the normal strat pup look, kind of like Dimarzio does with their strat pups...

hot damn, im droolin

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

A four-conductor '59... only hotter and with more mids to give it a pretty even eq across the whole spectrum.

I just had a thought....

How about we let Seymour make whatever he wants for us.....Seems like we have trouble deciding, so lets let the man decide for us.....

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

how about a pickup with three DIFFERENT magnets...the tightness of ceramic, the smoothness of alnico 2's, and the body of alnico 5's??

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

I'm in... leaning towards "boutique" variant of the distortion.. something "hot" with clarity

but totally interested in whatever gets votes.. maybe we could come up with a series of polls to narrow it down.

like
Format: hum single
Output: low mid high
Magnet: a2 a5 etc

we need a full list of options & then see what kind or weird combination wins...

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Cool Idea Evan/Seymour, thanks!

I would go with LoFi Brian though.

A2 , aged/treated like the EVH
Waxpotted
Slightly mismatched coils (5-6 , 4,5-5,5)
gauge?
Regular spaced
More or less and EVH/78 combi with the Hybrid comes to mind 10-11k's to fill the gap between PAF-line and Custom line.

Looks: Zebra, Black or double Creme with Chrome on top;-)

Or less specified:

Something like the Super Distortion of Dimarzio. maybe brass baseplate (like they use-as I feel that's there 'presence/EQ' secret) double row of hexscrews, more botttom end, and a little more defined in the higher mids to retain some clarity.
double creme with chrome on top, black or even zebra.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

How about a factory-potted and slightly overwound Seth Lover set? I think a lot of guys shy away from the Seth because of concerns with feedback.

Perhaps I should be looking at the PGn and CCb combination, but I have it in my mind that those won't sound like overwound Seths.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Hmmm.. how abt a JB lite... same JB tone but with the tightness people are asking for and little less out put.... I am FULL GAME FOR THE BROBUKER. I missed it last time.. so would not miss it this time..
Some one mentioned a neck match for the Brobuker whihc I think is a cool idea/ suggestion.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

1) Type: Dual Blade humbucker with really thin blades

2) DC Res: near 15K

3) Resonance freq: near 4-4.5KHz

4) EQ: B/low-M/hi-M/T - 6/6/4/7 or so. (A little added highs with a low resonance freq will make a rough growl....what do you say?)

5) Magnet: Alnico V.

6) Extra feature: Slightly mismatched coils for more breath and that trademark Duncan PAF vibe.

7) Mission: Huge sound with punch, tightness, focus, CLARITY and roar.

8) Name: Hmmm..........Mean Machine, maybe

Well......oK, that's just a dream of mine.....
I would love to buy one of these as well! :)

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

+ 1 with metalblazes idea some kind of really cool dual blade pickup like a distortion class pickup with an alnico 5....and sweet harmonic overtones

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Actualy I would go for anything that is offered... I do use single coils on my strat and am thinking about TELES lately..
But I am not loking for any thing TOO HOT.. a liilte over wound something like 10-11 k for a Bridge humbucker is fine..
Among Single coils again a liilte over wound bridge will be fine.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

I have a cool idea:

A Tele bridge pup for humbucker routed guitars...

Stag mag with Tele voicing... Or a Twangbanger humbucker... could be A5 or A2 (I prefer A2) you can name it what you want... could work as a Phat Cat or be a splitable humbucker (for more options)... 8 k to 9 k when it works like a single coil. If it's made as a splitable humbucker it will be a high output 16k + bucker so metal players would enjoy it...

Think about it - might be a killer pup...

Yeh sounds good
or maybe a mustang/strat pickups best of both world or even better hot strat when full and hot mustang when tapped (seeming mustang stock is really weak)
I also liked the idea of a filtertron type pickup or a tele sounding humbucker (i wanna hear a tele bridge pickup in les paul or gretsch!)

I would certainly be interested to see(hear) what Seymour would come up with.
