PA rules blah blah blah

man, do you realize if we end up with a PABB (Parallel Axis Bro Bucker) it's going to be pretty much born of your influence?

Awesome!

I voted Parallel Axis - they sound awesome even though they're ugly! (like Stevie Ray Vaughan, )

BTW, if it turns out to be a PATB, I really want one in Double Cream!!!!!!!! That would really make it special!!!!
Yeah baby !Double Cream PATB! Yeeee-Haw! :firedevil

+1, you guys seem to have a really good direction for this pup...double cream shall look so good in my sg (well, anything will, but cream will match best with the neck binding).

Re: Forum member custom shop pickup….VOTE #4

I voted all flathead screws, because I freaking love how those look. I really don't like the look of the PA pups, however, I think they'll sound the best. And considering this is a custom pup, we needed to pick PA! I'm happy it was picked. The A8, and the PA might make this a really great pup. I can't wait to try it out!

The only thing is, if it's not double creme I won't be able to use it! :(

Re: Forum member custom shop pickup….VOTE #4

I still think it would be cool if we could specify the colors for each order instead of having to order them all double cream... Would that be possible? I like everything else, but double white would suit me better than double cream. BTW is it Cream or Creme?

Re: Forum member custom shop pickup….VOTE #4

I don't think we can have double cream with a PA pickup. Double cream pickups have to be covered as far as I understand.

I personally wouldn't want double cream, that wouldn't look very nice with a white pickguard and black hardware.

Re: Forum member custom shop pickup….VOTE #4

It's probably too late to bring this up, but would it be a good idea to have the output be in a range that would let the pup sound good in both the neck and bridge? Just thought I'd throw that in- sorry if its already been thrown in or if I'm pulling too much noobery :headbang: regardless, I'm definately in.

Yeah I agree, it sounds like it could be really interesting, a CSPATBA8 pickup.

The regular colour schemes would probably be spot on cool all the way around. I honestly think a Zebra would look wicked, but good luck getting a cover to surround those particular bobbins for the DblCreme. I'm definitely under the impression it may have to be DblBlk. You know, you can always hold on to it for another guitar later.

BTW is it Cream or Creme?

Either, or.

Re: Forum member custom shop pickup….VOTE #4

I don't think I've ever seen a zebra or cream PATB and maybe for a reason. I don't think even a custom shop order can be made in anything but black. Considering they'd have to have custom molded bobbins in a cream color just for this run of 50-100 pickups (being optimistic) even if they could do it, that would probably be a separate charge for a non-standard color.

Thanks alot Daemon! Sounds like i might really dig the PA design.

Dude believe me ,even Seymour Duncan things that's the "right way" to build humbuckers! And he knows darn good how to do it hahahah!
You will enjoy it Bro!If we and MJ choose the right way ,it would be the best allround Humbucker ever!:headbang:

Yeah i never thought that would happen!I am happy that people are going to give it a shot! It's a typical marketing rule!Nothing is better than a happy customer! And that's what i am hahah!:bigok:

The Brobucker was cream. I know what you're saying about the PA part, and that may be true. But if they can't do it in cream, then I'm (very) regrettably gonna have to sit this out. And I really don't want to do that.

Yeah i'm afraid you're right! But hey ,we don't have to pay thos loyalties ,so we can be happy if we get zebra or DoubleCream!I buy it anyway and i don't care wich color it is.My guitar is black and double creme will look not that good. But it will be a damn custom work that noone can copy it!And that makes it so exciting!

Re: Forum member custom shop pickup….VOTE #4

If it's custom shop, they can do double cream.

This is what makes me think that regardless of whether it's a Custom Shop made PA vs. a production model that some of the options will still be limited due to it's build. No one has chimed in here about it, but this is what I gather.

Even the single coil sized PA-STK1n stack® is Trem-Spaced.
older SD catalogue said:
Designed as a companion pickup to the Parallel Axis humbucking pickups, it features a noise canceling single coil stack design and tremolo spacing. The sound is clear and full. Good for clean rhythm or bluesy solo tone. Due to the slightly increased size of this pickup, some guitar modification may be necessary.

http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/imagepages/pa-stk1.shtml

current SD website description said:
Uses our patented Stack® hum-canceling technology combined with the benefits of the Parallel Axis design (USA Patent 4,524,667).

All of that seems to elude that the nature of the 'Parallel Axis design' is confined to it's very package.
older SD catalogue said:
It's patented pole piece design actually enhances string vibration. 24 pole pieces surround your strings in a flux field that doesn't interfere with each string's natural vibration.
I'd imagine from all of this that the PA pole pieces need the extra surface space to spread out evenly and properly from E to E and this is part of the reason why it must be housed in a slightly larger bobbin space, specifically Trembucker spaced.

Make sense?

Also in another thread that I read (a couple of days ago) it was reported back from Evan via Mike that any 2nd coil that was mixed with a PA coil would have to be cut for blades thin or thick because the PA bobbins are already made for the separate pole pieces.

Like XSSIVE said, this pickup design doesn't go near what I'd opt for, but so far sounds really interesting and enticing at the same time. From some of the input from others here it has painted a picture of a unique pickup, and that's all good...

Re: Forum member custom shop pickup….VOTE #4

The issue with double cream is that D*marzio uses it as a trademark look for their pickups, so its not just the double cream part, its the way the pickups look. Carvin even makes a double cream production model, but they have twelve poles a bobbin, making them look different enough that they don't fall under the trademark. So, if the PA poles look different enough from the standard humbucker ones (or it is determined that they look different enough to be distinguished in the market) then they can make 'em without covers. A similar case came up when gibson sued PRS for making the singlecut look too much like a les paul (and therefore causing confusion among buyers claimed gibson), PRS was encroaching on gibson's market. I assume its the same sort of thing with double cream pickups.

Thanks to all for some great info. I wasn't quite sure what to vote on this one, but went with Parallel Axis.

Looks to be one unique pickup. Oh, if it sounds good, I'll take any color. (But zebra would be cool).
