Today i found a Fender chorus amp i had been looking for... A Fender Ultimate Chorus amp.... I had an Ultra chorus amp version for 4-5 years in the early 90's and sold it after i got my 5150 stack and Classic 50... didn't feel i needed it after i got those amps... but i missed it... i bought a Princton Chorus amp about 7 years ago as i missed the Ultra but it sucks if you try and turn it up, cheap speakers cr*p out with the bass notes.... I've used Princton Chorus amps since 1988 or so for low level practices at home..... i've had 3-4 different ones over the years and the ultra..
Anyways it works good... That great SS clean stereo sound reminds me of some of Metallica's famous tone's on some of their older hits.... i think they used Roland JC 120's.... The Analog Chorus sounds lush.... Could also be used for some Police type tunes like Walking On The Moon..
It also has some pretty insane overdrive... a real hotrod... not that great for band work as these amps disappear in a mix like crazy... now if i can get a set up of A/B'ing this amp for cleans with my tube amps for dirt i maybe onto something
I paid a high price for it i think.. $350 Canadian for it... still not bad for a 2x12 really loud chorus amp!!! New i remember these amps around $850 Canadian in the late 90's...
Sad part is the past owner was a smoker and i can't stand the smell of the thing... I cleaned it pretty good about an hour ago but the thing stinks... (I have a Fender strat that smells the same and the smell has taken 5 years to die down, or maybe i'm just getting used to it...) I wiped down the speakers carefully to remove the dust and the back or the cab... I used a damp cloth to wipe the silver speaker grill down but it has yellowed... Not sure what i can do to tame the smell...
I hate the idea of keeping it in my room for months smelling like smoke.... makes me wonder if it's a health risk even if it's a real low one..
