Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

I would also like to nominate The Living Dead for the other set of pickups, he is a great guy with some serious guitar chops! he needs better pickups though!

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

If someone can be nominated more than once, I'd also like to nominate TheLivingDead. He was one of the first people on the forum to show kindness to me, and that was really cool of him. He's a class guy, and menace on the guitar!

As far as pickups for me go, I'd really like to put a Alternative 8 and a P-rails neck in my Silvertone revolver. It's my beater guitar, but it's neck is very comfortable to play on, it and resonates well. A while back I literally burned the finish off this guitar.

So, I'll throw my name in the hat. I would like to pimp out my new (used) strat I picked up from a forum bro. Pickups in question would be SSL-2n, SSL-2 RP/RW, and Phat Cat (chrome, bridge). They would be going in the guitar below. The only reason why is that this is my only guitar without Duncans in it.

It's awesome that you are doing this, BTW.

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

I'm actually pretty well set for pickups... I'm usually scouting for parts and bodies to go with 'em! ;)

I'll echo I think this is very cool of you and your wife to do. :)

A friend of mine, however, could find a lot of use out of an "Everything Strat" set of sc-sized humbuckers.

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

That is a very nice gesture. Merry Christmas to you and your wife.
I would like to nominate Jerry (metalmaniac). One of the nicest guys I have got to know on this forum.

I have a tele project coming up sometime. So a set of that would be nice. A broadcaster set

very cool thing to do rg!

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

And everyone else! Thanks for putting in! You are awesome and appreciated.

The more the merrier.

I wish I could give multiple sets! So many deserving guitars and users here. Maybe we can convince Duncan to match it? And give two sets at least?

Anyway...cheers and respect!

RG

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

I don't need any more pickups, but I would also like to give my vote to TheLivingDead. Great guy, and he deserves a free pup set more than I do.

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

I certainly cannot turn down this offer. Thanks Rodney Gene for being in the Christmas spirit!

My girlfriend surprised me on my birthday last week with an amazing Orville Les Paul Custom. Long story short, I had been trying to buy this particular guitar since September, but couldn't get the money together. A few weeks back, I had my finances sorted out, but the guitar was gone. So i spent weeks being a little bummed out only to find out that my girlfriend (who doesn't have a lot of money to burn either) had bought it for me! It was a birthday miracle, so maybe the magic will keep going with this contest!

The guitar already has a set of 59s in it, and I love the neck but think the bridge could use a little more punch. I was originally thinking of a set of gold covered whole lotta humbuckers, but the open coil look has grown on me. With that in mind, I humbly throw my name in the hat for 1 Brobucker. It's the forum pickup, it's a forum contest, and you are truly a sweet bro for doing this for us.

Here is a pic of me getting the guitar. It's blurry, but we all know what a LPC looks like!

For other forumites, I don't know a lot of you guys personally, but I'll also go with TheLivingDead. We both have crazy colored Ibanez rgs and he seems like a nice guy.

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

This is a really cool thing to do.

Here's a picture of my late 80's ESP 400 Series Tele. I bought this after the airline baggage handling gorillas cracked the headstock off of my SG on my way to a gig in Chicago last year; I realized I needed a more robust guitar for air travel, and this little guy seemed to fit the bill.

This guitar looks and plays awesome, but the stock pickups are a wee bit clanky and harsh when overdriven. Methinks a Jerry Donahue bridge pickup along with a Five-Two neck might be just the thing to warm it up.

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

Wow, that is a really great thing to do man!
However, if at all possible, I would like to nominate two other people instead of having me in said hat.

The first is BloodRose, he's a really great guy that I've had the pleasure to talk with throughout the years I've been a part of this forum and even got a guitar from him once. He's always been nothing but respectful to anyone here and, to the best of my knowledge, he's never said a bad thing about anyone, be it a forum member or a person or institution in general. Plus, I really do think that a good set of SDs would be an awesome gift for Christmas in his book.

The other is TheLivingDead. While I don't know him for as long as BloodRose, he nevertheless has been a great addition to this forum. Not only is he a very gifted player but an all-around good guy and like BloodRose, every time he had something to say it was about how he liked something/someone, not once do I remember him saying he thought something was bad/uncool/tacky/whatever.

In fact, the worst I remember either one of them saying was how a particular guitar wasn't their particular type yet they could see how someone else could like them.

Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays everyone!!!

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

I would post a pic of the guitar they would go in but unfortunately it hasn't been made yet! Going to be a quartersawn maple neck with ebony board and stainless steel frets, Floyd bridge with titanium block and mahogany body with a custom shape similar to a reversed Dean Cadillac. All he has right now is a couple of LTD's with EMGs in them and he's been dying to switch over and start fresh. We were planning on going HSS, and for the bridge humbucker either the Dimebucker or the L500XL. For the neck and middle 2 duncan custom stack plus strat pickups.

Here's my band and the guitarist with the LTD. He is in DESPERATE need of a tone renaissance. i am the fool with the glasses and the chops. Even if we don't end up making the new guitar that Dimebucker could replace one of his EMGs. Even if I don't win, super cool of you and your wife for doing this for us.

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

I've been very fortunate enough to receive pickups from Duncan for writing for the blog, so I'm not going to put in here. I did want to say though that this is an extremely wonderful thing for you to do Rodney, and generous too. Great to see people still showing the Christmas spirit. :)

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

I applaud your generous spirit. In an age when Wall Street gamblers have knocked many of us out of work and people trample each other for Black Friday bargains, your kindness gives me a shred of hope. So here's my project: an '86 Japanese strat. I'd like a darker sounding humbucker for the bridge (what Duncan pickup would sound like a Gibson 498t?). And perhaps a single-coil-sized humbucker for the neck position. I'm going for the Alex Lifeson Frankenstrat tone from Exit Stage Left era.100_0609.jpg

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

this was something that I was originally going to pass on. honestly, I'm not hurting for pickups. but most of what I've done with new pickups this past year has not been seen here and is a project I've been asked to work on to be of benefit to others, although I've also benefited from the exposure to tones I hadn't previously known. as such, I've bought somewhere around 9-10 Custom Shop pickups this year out of my own pocket. then another 5 boutique pickups from other brands.

as such, I've been wanting a Crazy 8 trembucker for months. other demands or needs or opportunities seem to come up first. here is what it would go in:

IMG_4083_zps6941315b.jpg

a Kramer mutt made from a Sustainer body. it currently has a PATB-1 set. the two obvious mini-toggles would be used for series/split/parallel, and the one other mini-toggle will be an afterburner.

I'd be happy to discuss the use further with Rodney Gene, but I'm really not looking for 'votes' from anyone here as it's not something to benefit or be used on the forum as much as to benefit and be used for the Duncan brand. but what I can do, if selected by Rodney Gene, is exchange a Custom Shop RTM trembucker model that I would give to the next in line or to whoever Rodney Gene sees fit to have it...essentially making it Christmas for two people.

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

A great gesture, especially during this hectic Christmas season, where most people are concerned with themselves and the material world. I'd love to throw a set of tappable Quarter Pounders in my Rocker strat copy, the very first guitar I've ever owned. It's been in need of some work, and some pickups will get the job done! I'll make sure to post pics soon.

I'd like to nominate aceman because of the cross he bears as our resident kiss fan. He's also helped quite a few of us when we've had questions.

I guess if my name is going in a hat I'd be overjoyed with a bridge position duncan distortion. Its going in a project guitar that I've been working on and money is tight this time of the year for everyone.

Merry christmas and god bless, everybody.

Re: FREE set of Duncan pickups of your choice. On me. Merry Christmas.

A Very Merry Christmas to you and yours! That is awesome, and very gracious of you! If I were to get one it would be a 78 Trembucker in black with short legs to go in this project that I started about 12 to 14 years ago. Book matched Koa face and back with Redwood, Maple, Redwood in the center with a Bocote stripe that runs through the center of the body and quarter sawn Maple neck with Bocote FB with 24 fretts. Gold tuners, gold fully floating OFR, and black top hat nobs for the master vol and tone with a 5 position super swich. The 78 would go in the bridge position with a P-90 in the neck. In the first pic it is wetted with alcohol. IMAG1006.jpgIMAG0997-1.jpgIMAG1002.jpgIMAG0982.jpg
