Friendly Solo Contest 2

Re: Friendly Solo Contest 2

Let's not dilute the purpose here. Don't matter what tuning you're in as long as you're playing the right notes! I just don't use an Eb tuned guitar because the one fret difference throws me off...D standard I'd just pretend I'm in F#!

Play on!

I dont know how to upload? I have a 5153 with that stuff on it? I will burn this one, done 77 takes now LOL

Re: Friendly Solo Contest 2

soundcloud or Youtube are the two best ways. Post the link and then I will put it in the original post to keep them all together!

Re: Friendly Solo Contest 2

Here's my effort with the song. Production is not good, it is too loud, and maybe guitar even louder. At some spots execution could definitely be better but I kind of like it so here it goes :

gear :
ibanez uv70p -> boss me-25 (some shreddy setting) ->Linux Kubuntu laptop:
-> jackctl ( pulseaudio) -> Ardour5 (cab sim) -> jackctl (pulseaudio out) -> guvcview

Reserving this spot right here for my entry. Gonna be a week+ before I can get it in because I have Dean guitar stuff tonight and a trip to Pheonix all next week....

Sweet tune though! Lot's of possibilities!!!!

Friendly Solo Contest 2

I’m gonna follow Ace’s lead here and reserve my spot... hopefully to get done sometime this weekend. Also, like in the last one, I’m not gonna listen to any of the other submissions until after I get mine up there. I want to know that whatever I come up with came out of my own head! [emoji12]

Okay... here we go!

Now to go back and listen to the other entries... :beerchug:

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot the gear!

• BriGuy Custom HH Strat copy with GFS Dream 180 pickups

• Zoom G5 directly into computer. Here’s the settings:

I really like the whammy work you did on this. It fit the song very well.

Re: Friendly Solo Contest 2

I can't decide if I want to use my WahFul or not... cocked wah a la Schenker. :33:

Re: Friendly Solo Contest 2

WahFul it 'tis. Find the sweet spot. :smokin:

EDIT:

Forgot to add the chain:

Gibson CS SG (57 Classics) w/ old strings
|
Fulltone WahFul doing cocked wah ("Jimi" set to sweet spot)
|
Marshall plexi cranked -> HP Dummy Load
| (Suhr ISO line out)
UA 2-610
|
DAW
|
[VST] SIR2 (Celestion G12-65s / SM57)
|
[VST] Waves EQ Classic (80's-ish style)
|
[VST] Soundtoys Echoboy (360ms / 1 repeat)

On the "2":

[VST] Altiverb EMT140 (just a hair)
|
[VST] Waves L1
|
[VST] Kramer Tape

neck pickup parts (intro / chorus / outro )panned L 15%
bridge pickup part (middle starting with pick slide) panned R 15%

Toughest part whenst soloing is coming up with something that isn't cliche'.

Next toughest part is coming up with little "themes" that fit and sound cool.

Then, somehow fitting all of that in a sequence that fits the vibe (build / release).
