Re: from now on, all EVH questions must be directed to this guy:

its funny isnt it?
Imagine seeing the work of some guy who can identically imitate van gogh or da vinci etc.
Its not really interesting at all is it?
I mean, it definitely shows they have worked hard. But its the creative spark in art that is interesting.
The other interesting thing is that this guys shows that you can mimic van halens mythical tone with a cheapo zoom pedal and a 15 watt SS amp.

Re: from now on, all EVH questions must be directed to this guy:

No matter how good another painter copies a Van gogh, he will just be called a forger....nobody will ever say wow, he is just as good Van Gogh because he isn't even though he can copy the original near perfectly.

Imitation of these artists is just simply technical...there is no spark of inspiration, innovation or emotion that came when the piece was originally created.

Maybe I am wrong but that is how I see it.

There is nothing too mythical about it now as he sells everything about his original tone...it is out there to buy. There are more processors out there with various EVH settings then I could count.
Copy guitars, pickups, cables, pots...etc..etc..etc.
Getting a reasonable facsimile of that sound these days is not that hard....getting that tone well over 30 years ago..is a part of what made him so famous.

However, if they enjoy that type of thing..Hey enjoy but it is not something I would ever aspire to do.

True, but it is still impressive on a different level

To some I guess.
To me, when I hear a cover, what I enjoy the most is how the new artist interprets the piece.
If I want to hear a perfect rendition of music by Eddy, I will just put on Van Halen.

As I said, though if you/they are into that type of thing...hey enjoy yourself! After all that is what the guitar is about. :)

guitarrob,

You're so negative about having SKILL. Yes, emotion and creativity are foremost, but you can't pull it off without some technical ability.

I like to think that I have a lot of emotion and creativity, but I wish I had 1/10th the technical skill that this guy has, (even with his crappy gear).

I find that those who don't have much skill themselves are the ones who are the strongest proponents of emotion as the main ingredient in being a great guitarist.

Lighten up and give credit where credit is due!

I said, if you or he is into that then enjoy yourself. I am not into the copycat thing. To each their own I guess...

Why do we prefer an original painting better than a perfect forgery? Psychologist Paul Bloom argues that human beings are essentialists - that our beliefs about the history of an object change how we experience it, and it is more than an illusion. It's a deep feature of what pleasure actually is.

Oh my God seriously that is the best Eddie impression I've ever heard.

That's because you never heard V-holic. The LAST and BEST word in EVH tone.

Re: from now on, all EVH questions must be directed to this guy:

Now that I have watched the clip:

Can't tell because the idiot is playing along with the album. I can hear some stuf happen on the recording BEFORE he starts it etc...

So - I'm not commenting except to say let me hear him accapella instead of 'finger syncing'

Did Yehudi Menuhin compose?
No, he played covers.

Re: from now on, all EVH questions must be directed to this guy:

Several companies need to be using this guy as their signature model poster child..

Good try, but…

In the case of the cookies, the person who came up with the recipe isn't around to bake you hot, fresh cookies from their own recipe, are they?

In the case of covers, most musicians play covers to interpret the song a little differently. The clones want to duplicate exactly what has already been done.

In the case of the classical violinist, we don't have recordings of our classical composers playing their own works in most cases, do we? The best we can do is have other people (who are still alive, usually) play the songs for us and/or make recordings that we can listen to.

In the case of Van Halen, we have those recordings to listen to. And Ed is still alive and playing. Apart from a tribute band, the clone doesn't serve much of a purpose to society at large, apart from buying signature gear. Unless we need it proven that Ed doesn't have magic fingers that make him the only person in human history capable of playing the songs.

Re: from now on, all EVH questions must be directed to this guy:

'He gave us that huge amount of facility that he had technically, blended with his personality that made him so special because technique, everybody can learn technique.

As a matter of fact, as soon as you display it in front of an audience you are guaranteed everybody is going to learn how to do it. The technique in and of itself is not special.

It's how the personality of the player decides to use it, when they decide to implement it, how they pull it off and that goes back to the person, the personality holding the guitar.'

What the clones really want is Ed's or other players musical personality and character and they are all a@@holes who have no musical personality of their own and suck other players like leeches.

Re: from now on, all EVH questions must be directed to this guy:

slight tldr
but if this guy's in a japanese DLR-era cover band and i get the chance to see them, i'll go.
and i didn't buy a ticket to soundwave revolution (VH were going to play and pulled out)

I wondered if anyone else noticed that.
