FS: modded Peavey Classic 30

I've got a Peavey Classic 30 in mint condition that's not seeing enough action and figured I'd see if anybody would be interested in it. I just spent the last hour playing through it, so I'm not even sure I really want to sell it...but what the heck. I originally had a stock one, but when I picked this one up I unloaded the old one since this one sounded better. The previous owner had it modded by Don Jones of Jones Amplifiers; not 100% on all the mods to the PCB (Don said they were "mostly in the tone stack") but it also has the adjustable bias mod with multimeter jacks on the back of the chassis and the speaker has been wired to a 1/4" jack on the bottom of the chassis. It's got a matched set of Sovtek GrooveTubes and a Warehouse ET65 speaker. Also comes with the original Peavey cover.

My old stock amp with some bumps and scuffs sold for $365, so I figured I'd start at $450 shipped. If you're near Charlotte and pick it up, I'd give you a much better deal (since the shipping last time was almost $80)

Shauggy. I've always heard those are good amps. What kind of tones do you usually get from it? Or rather, what type of music is it best suited for?

That ET65 should work well in that amp. Good call.

For what it's worth: If anyone passes up this great deal on such a fine amp, I'll hunt you down and slap you...yeah... Anyway, I have a Classic 50 (2/12) and if I didn't love it so much, I'd jump on this amp in a heart beat. For the money, you can't beat it.

Thanks for the kind words, guys! It is a fun little amp, I might just hang on to it...I'm only selling it to buy a LP, but I could always just save up my money instead (what a strange concept...)

Jeff, I guess I'd say it's more of a blues/rock amp - I wouldn't use it for metal or anything, but it is pretty versatile. I normally just run pedals through the clean channel, but the drive channel is a lot smoother than it was on my stock C30.

Oh, that's the Cortley I got from Kac a while back. For what it is, it's a decent little guitar...needs a new nut but overall not a bad beater to throw around the house.

Personally, I'd keep the amp and save up the money. I feel that someday that amp (and its ilk) will be collector's items. Besides, they're made in the US of A. A lot of people can only get the Chinese (for example) made stuff of whatever brand. I dunno, perhaps I'm just a sentimental old fool...

You'd be surprised what you can do with an EQ w/boost in the loop and some tube changes. I could get my old one sounding pretty heavy. Mine had all JJ tubes, used a Boss EQ-20 in the loop and an Eminence Private Jack speaker.
