Hello all! I've gotten some good information here in the past. I am about a day away from buying a Les Paul Custom. Not being one to leave well enough alone I'll be replacing the pickups. It comes stock with the 490/498T set which are pretty good but I want better. I've decided on a JB for the bridge because I think that it will be the closest to what is already in there with some added heat and harmonics. For the neck I've narrowed it down to a Jazz, a '59 or a Full Shred. The stock 490 in the neck is so so. It seems a tad bit muddy for what I want to do with it. For the most part I use my neck pickup for solos with and without wah, stoner rock rythms, blues, clean and perhaps some pickup blending with the bridge. So basically I'm looking for a magic pickup. LOL. Anyone have any clips?

Oh ya by the way, I might get this bad boy wired with push pull tone pots for some coil splitting. Let fly with your comments and clips! :)

Go with the Jazz or Full Shred if you want to do solos. I find that the 59 in mine is better suited to rhythm playing, and the odd lead part.

i'd say go Jazz if u're looking for nice cleans tones as well.
Jazz does well in clean and under high gain. good luck

No body likes the '59? The sound clips are nice but I have ZERO experience with them or any vintage humbucker for that matter. I like the Jazz pickup in my Carvin CT6 which is mahogany with a maple cap. I'm worried that the Les Paul by nature being a darker guitar might make the Jazz TOO dark. I could be wrong though as this will be my first lester.

actually i think the jazz might brighten up the tone in ur LP a little.
i personally never put one in a LP, but i had it in my Jackson KE which i replaced the paf pro with the jazz and it because brighter sounding but lots clearer and the cleans are oooh so sweet to my ears :D

Oh, I love the 59, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying that I prefer it for full rhythms and lead fills, not for soloing. For that, I'll flip to the Custom because it just cuts like crazy and sounds huge.
