FullShred’s younger cousins ??

If you want more punch and attitude, go with the Custom

If you want a smoother tone and don't mind something with a little less output than your Full Shred, go with the Perpetual Burn

If you mag-swap the S-deco, start with a simple Ceramic and then see if there's still something you want to change about it.

How would describe S-Deco vs Perpetual and S-Deco with a simple ceramic vs Perpetual ????

I couldn't give you an accurate answer to that, unfortunately. I suspect no one has tried an S-Deco with a ceramic and compared it directly to a PB...I certainly haven't.

However, understanding that you wanted to blend the characteristics of the S-Deco and the Full Shred, the most logical way to get there (with your existing pickups) is a mag-swap in the S-Deco to improve its output and immediacy without taking away the general character of the pickup.

That's why I suggested starting with a traditional ceramic and going from there.

Curious what you think about the Custom, though! Glad you ordered one...I think you'll like it ;)

Thanks dudes! the overall consensus here on Custom got me confidence to pull the trigger fairly quickly. So yes, the custom does what I wanted rhythm wise, and it does sound huge, definitely a pup for a guitarist in a four piece band. I have accidently installed a 9-46 set vs my usual 9-42, so have these extra lower mids that I love, i just dont love the tension and the feel of the Schaller Floyd with them - dont know, maybe i will get used to it. This does not do it justice, its crappy iphone recording with some f**kups, as I am still working out the nuances of this piece not sure about the picking and some little "nicks and bumps", plus the tension of the strings is bit different to me. But anyways here it goes

Nothing a bit of practice won’t fix. I think the tone is there. It’s a cool pickup, isn’t it?

Yes, its the best rhythm pup for what i do it seems, i will have to figure out how to work it for the leads, because its very different from the fullshred leads wise. Had a first full rehearsal with a band with it, it definitely rules in the mix, really complex and powerful, beautiful cut-through.
