Re: Fulltone OCD or fulldrive-2 Mosfet

i had the fulldrive 2 for a while but took it back for a jeckle and hyde pedal. the fulldrive 2 was nice, but lacked bottom end. i thought the route 66 was a much better pedal and about $35 less. you might want to check that one out. the fulltone is overrated IMO, but if you like that thin kind of slight overdrive, it might be ok for you. the route 66 though, that's an awesome pedal.

Re: Fulltone OCD or fulldrive-2 Mosfet

I do like kinda thick overdrive infact i had thin sounding anythig. So between route66 and jeckle and hyde, what is the best???

Re: Fulltone OCD or fulldrive-2 Mosfet

that depends. the route 66 is more like a mild overdrive similar to a fulldrive, but with a separate compression pedal built in. it's very smooth and transparent. very good sounding pedal.

the jeckle and hyde pedals have a ibanez ts9 or 8 (don't know for sure) tube screamer one one side and a distortion on the other. all visual sound pedals are dual function. i like the jeckle and hyde pedal because i can use the tube driver side to smooth out or augment my own amps distortion, or use the distortion side for my amps clean channel. either way it sounds super. i can also use them together and get a real smooth and compressed heavy overdrive.

in any case, they're both worth looking into and certainly worth every penny. the jeckle and hyde is very versatile and you'll keep it for a very long time. you should also check out hte h20 pedal, it's a chorus and delay pedal that sounds super. i've seen them new for $99.

Re: Fulltone OCD or fulldrive-2 Mosfet

you're going to like it dude. another thing i forgot to mention is that the jeckle and hyde distortion is slightly transparent, so your natural guitar, pickup, and amp tones will sound superb.

Re: Fulltone OCD or fulldrive-2 Mosfet

The OCD is hardly thin sounding and has a tone of gain on tap. It is also very transparent allowing the natural vibe of the guitar and amp to shine through. I love mine and won't be getting rid of it anytime soon. If smooth yet chimey lower gain is what you are looking for then a Barber LTD is incredible and specifically what is was made for.

Re: Fulltone OCD or fulldrive-2 Mosfet

yeah, the ocd is better IMO. it seems to be in more demand than the fulldrive. you can find a tone of fulldrives all over ebay now, but hte ocd is still at a premium. i've been looking at those barbers though. what great sounding pedals. what do you think, is the ltd classic worth the extra bucks over the ltd?

Re: Fulltone OCD or fulldrive-2 Mosfet

what is an ltd classic? ive heard of the ltd, ltd silver, and ltd sr

i love my barber ltd, its the overdrive i use most but i run it at 18v, not 9v

Re: Fulltone OCD or fulldrive-2 Mosfet

yeah, my bad. i think there's the original and the silver. i was referring to the original.

Re: Fulltone OCD or fulldrive-2 Mosfet

The LTD is a low gain overdrive. Not your thing.

What you're asking for is a mid-high gain pedal. Consider as well the Subdecay Stupid Box, or the Mi Audio Tube Zone.

Which LTD do you use? I love my Small Fry, and have thought about the LTD vs. Direct Drive.

Barber pedals are awesome and very well built and as transparent as it gets.

Getting back to the thread, some folks use 2 ODs, with the 2nd for the gain/boost for really dirty stuff.

Re: Fulltone OCD or fulldrive-2 Mosfet

I just started using an OD pedal again and it's on all the time. I'll just roll back my guitar volume to clean up. The Boss SD-1 is my choice, but it's not much of a SD-1 anymore. It's modified to TS-808 specs except for the tone control, it's still got the SD-1 values. I use different clipping diodes too. It's doing exactly what I want it to. Saved myself $100 by not having to buy a TS-9 and mod it. All the parts were just sitting in my parts bins waiting to be used.

I will add a nod for the Visual Sound stuff. The other guitar player in my band uses the J&H through his DSL401 and gets great tone with it. The gentleman who worked on designing those with VS knows quite a bit about electronics so you know that stuff is top notch when it comes to the design (Mr. R.G. Keen).

I have the OCD v3 and the best way to decribe the rhythm tone would be Led Zep's "The Ocean". It will always be in that ballpark at medium gain. It sounds superb at low gain but it more of a vintage sound, the sound clips on the Fulltone site pretty much sum it up. There is more gain on tap but the pedal has a vintage flavor so it won't blow you away with EVH or Cobain tones although it will pass. It's a great pedal but I'm looking for equally good modern voiced distortion to compliment it.

Re: Fulltone OCD or fulldrive-2 Mosfet

ok guys after this i'm down to two
1.fulltone OCD
2.Visuals jeckyle & hyde

please help me decide

Re: Fulltone OCD or fulldrive-2 Mosfet

i have the normal black ltd with bass and presence trim pots on the inside. its cool at 9v but it wasnt till i used 18v with it that it became my go to dirt box. 18v seemed to lower overall gain but its a little more transparent and much more dynamic.

ive used a modded small fry and i thought it was really nice. i havent tried a direct drive.

i have a rt66 and its a great little pedal, ts on one side and compresser or boost on the other. the ltd at 18v is just a better fit for my style

Hmmmm......I'll have to try that tonight with my 18v power supply. I'm really loving the black ltd!
