I tend to gravitate more towards funk.... Would just like to hear some recommendations on some fun songs to cover...

Thanks,

Re: "Funky" songs to cover...?

Supersition, I Wish, and Higher Ground - Stevie Wonder
Fire - The Ohio Players
almost anything by James Brown will do, as will Funkadelic.
Chic had some good funk guitar riffs...

Come on someone help me out...

Superstition, I Wish, and Higher Ground - Stevie Wonder

I've done all of those at some point with my covers band!

"Why Did You Do It" (by Stretch) is cool and funky.

"Sex Machine" - James Brown

"Play That Funky Music" white boy! (Wild Cherry)

I like "Brick House" by The Commodores too :)

"What is Hip?" by Tower of Power

Do you have a brass section?

I have a load of others that I used to cover in my funk band, but we were an 11 piece band with a big brass section

Re: "Funky" songs to cover...?

Chic - Le Freak should be on that list. :)

Re: "Funky" songs to cover...?

Here's a couple of choice Funkadelic tunes. They're diffinitely funk, but with more of a rock edge.

Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On
Flashlight
Good To Your Earhole.

Some other tunes by various artists

Fight The Power(Isley Brothers)
Thank You Fallettinme Be Mice Elf, again. (Sly and The Family Stone...very first pure funk bassline.)
Dance To The Music(Sly...need keyboards and horns help)
Livin In A World Gone Mad(Dumpstaphunk...sickest groove I've heard in a LONG time)

Yea....I am kind of waitng on brass to do "pure" funk....looking for more along the line of "funkY", that a trio could pull off...guitar, bass, drums.

I came across Funk 49 yesterday....that would be a great example of something that works for us......thick groove, etc.....

Thanks....keep em coming.

You're welcome!
That is one of my favorites, I was blown away when I came across that live version.

Check out them Funkadelic tunes...if you like Funk #49 and Losing You, they'll be right up your alley and you can crush them in a trio format. Also give Red Hot Mama a listen. Funkadelic is the rock and roll funk lover's dream band.

The Dumpstaphunk tune rocks, too.
