G&L good value?

Re: G&L good value?

Was quality better/worse/similar then to now? Serial Number is 8044536 - does the last digit perhaps stand for 96?

The quality has always been good at G&L. The serial number on three bolt G&L's started with a "G". The serial number is probably G044536. The only way to date a G&L guitar is to remove the neck and check the dates that are stamped on the body & neck inside the neck pocket.

You're right..it's a 'G'.

I sent in a silly offer at 25% below asking price and they accepted it - been playing her all day!

Re: G&L good value?

G&L? Good value? Definietly!

Our bassist scored an L2500 bass recently. It's one of the best sounding basses I've ever heard, seen, or heard about. It makes an otherwise great Sting Ray sounding kinda "generic"...

Nice one!! Glad you pulled the trigger, they are exceptional instruments... I'm looking forward to getting me another ASAT (hopefully in the next 12 months!).

Re: G&L good value?

Congratulations! How are you liking the G&L?

Very much...the neck is nice and fat, though not a baseball bat, and the body and neck are very reasonant indeed. Pups are fatter than other Teles I've owned, and the overall sound is distictly Tele but perhaps more rounded. The body (which I think may be one piece of Swamp Ash?) is beautiful and the overall feel is of exceptional quality - the sound is much rounder and smoother than my old MIJ Ash '52, much more characterful than an American Deluxe I had for a while, and more punchy than my basswood Esquire.

It's kind of like a Tele+ - it's very early days but so far it seems pretty flawless - to the point where I don't want to wax too lyrical as I keep expecting to find something wrong with it...it's that good.

What I don't understand is the previous owner(s)...this thing is at least 11 years old, yet looks totally unplayed. It is mint...I think £600 was a great deal given second hand 52RI's seem to go for around £750.

There must be a catch somewhere...

Seem pretty hard to find over here though - Hartnoll's are expensive, and I haven't seen them anywhere else except for the odd one on the Bay every now and then. It's weird, you'd think they'd be more popular...

I need to post this pic, somewhere. This is perhaps the most adequate place...

Because this is the most sexy/gorgeous/beautiful/cool/amazing/awesome/etc. guitar I have seen in a long long long time:

I am still picking my jaw up from the floor.

Edit: I loved that Tele you bought! If I ever acquire myself a Tele, it will be a G&L for sure..

I just did some research and confirmed that I need that G&L.

Re: G&L good value?

You buy it, then finds a new G&L that attracts you, and you'll sell the spalted maple topped G&L to me for cheap.

Re: G&L good value?

You know you can't get enough G&Ls..

I remembered you had one when you say it now.. That's a real looker too!

Re: G&L good value?

I bought this one on Harmony-Central several years ago for $600 and NEVER had issues with the 3 bolt neck. It was an AWESOME guitar! I think I sold it on eBay for close to $900 too!
