G&L Skyhawk Reissue

Pretty excited- G&L reissued the L2000 & L1000 basses in their original style in the last year, using the 'CLF Research' sub-brand. They also just placed reproduction classic style knobs for sale on their website, so it's not too alarming they're beginning to reissue Leo-era guitars now:

Glad to see the first series Skyhawk get the reissue treatment, even if it isn't the 'obvious' choice- the Skyhawk was always the most Strat-like of G&L guitars (before the BBE era Legacy) so I suppose it makes sense as far as not jumping into the experiment too radical. Basically as far as their present lineup, it's a Nighthawk shape with vibrato, S500 pickups and the old style control plate and headstock; distinctively G&L while not going too far off the deep end into their pool of 'weird' models.

...The best thing to me is they're now ~90% there to reissue the Cavalier :)

Re: G&L Skyhawk Reissue

I'm looking forward to seeing the F100 again; the last reissue series wasn't bad at all, but were a bit lukewarm (on paper at least) for me without the PTB and switches; not to mention the aesthetics of the plate and headstock.

They still sell F100 pickups in the online store (not to mention they already incurred the expense for retooling them for the F100 reissue and anniversary models.) And there's apparently not a legal barrier to the early G&L headstock since they're using it on basses, so now that they're full-on with the Skyhawk it seems like they're really only another control plate and headstock tweak from an original style F100 if they choose to do so. If they reissued with the string through saddle-lock I'd buy on principle.

Re: G&L Skyhawk Reissue

Almost bought a "real" one in black a few weeks ago. Probably would have, but someone got to it first. Think I'll keep my eyes peeled for another old one, rather than buying one of these. But I'm glad they are offering it again. I grew up with a slightly later model one in the house (my dad's) – the kind with the more Strat-like pickguard.

Re: G&L Skyhawk Reissue

I have a later SC3 which is just a later Skyhawk with a different headstock and one fewer knobs:

Earlier style is much more attractive than the Strat style IMO.

Re: G&L Skyhawk Reissue

F-100 with a vibrato was my first name brand electric. First guitar I toured with. Lots of sounds and voices on tap with those. Would be cool see one and try them again.
