G12H30 is BADASS in my DRRI

Holy crap this amp SMOOOKES now! Like naaasty awesome lead and crunchy tones, it's amazing!

The speaker is nowhere near broken in, my only slight complaint is that it has a crunchy low end, nowhere near as tight as the Jensen C12K, but i can get used to it. The lead tones are just soaring when i hit the TS9 with any of the pickups on my surfer strat. When i do rhythms it sounds sweet and textured with a tiny bit of dirt (I'm a Trey Anastasio wannabe, so think weekapaug groove/push on till the day type playing :laugh2: )

It also is airy, and a bit less percussive. I think it's great how the volume knob on the guitar controls the speaker distortion alot.

How about chime? That's always been my gripe with celestion's in a fender amp.:)

Re: G12H30 is BADASS in my DRRI

My Marshall 1960AHW 4X12 came with these speakers, and nobody seems to pay attention when I jump up and down, and run naked into traffic screaming how wonderful they are. I don't have any other amps that use these speakers to compare with, but then, why bother : "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Re: G12H30 is BADASS in my DRRI

I knew you'd like it. I'm also a big fan of Vintage 30's, because they're tighter on the low end, but have the British mids and crunchy highs. There's a reason Celestion are the most popular speakers. It's because they kick A$$.
Sometimes, I wonder how much better a 59 Bassman would sound if it didn't have Jensens or Eminence, but instead had Celestion Vintage 10's.

i gotta put one of these in my Junior eventually...i know that i would love it!

Re: G12H30 is BADASS in my DRRI

I am not as thrilled with the V30 tone as GJ, but I do like it.

I consider the mid signature on the V30 a little unbalanced, and I feel like in the end it crunches in areas that don't necessarily resemble famous recorded tones from Slash to EVH to all the greats. It can get there, but instead I think guys like Slash are more likely to use V30s live because they don't mush up when turned up.

The new "in" thing to do is mix V30s/G12H's and I have discovered it is a wonderful way to round out the Crunch tones and feel if you like that classic tone.

While I haven't used G12H's with Fenders, I have used V30s. V30s tend to be a chimey and nice but lack the throaty sound of Jensens or the sweet crunch and balanced tone. G12H30s have always had some of that Jensen goodness, but with more balance and sweeter mids for rock music.

That's my take.

Problem? G12H30s tend to sound best when louder, esp for gain. Cleans are good at any volume. The G12H30 takes a LOT of playing time to break in - I mean A LOT LOT.

Wait til that speaker wears in, you might be even more thrilled,

I have a drri I'm thinking of doing a swap in. Is it a huge noticable difference from the stock speaker? There are so many speakers, I just don't know where to begin.

Hell yeah! Or try the Scumback, those also come in pre-worn and sound very loose.

The tightness of new G12H30s is muderous to break in, uggggh. I am still breaking mine in.
