On many occasions I've walked into Walgreens or Sally Beauty Supply guitar in hand ready to fix some dings. Some folks know whats up, some get stupid looks on their faces.

I use clear nail polish all the time on stuff like straplock threads. It's strong enough to hold, brittle enough to intentionally break, and it cleans up easy.

Nail Polish is generally Acrylic Lacquer. ( READ THE LABEL) Can't say I've ever used it on a Nitro finish? I would test it 1st in the ever popular inconspicuous area.

My wife has a clear coat nail polish that has nitro in it. I wouldn't try it on a tinted nitro finish as nitro will melt into itself and will mess up the area you try to fill.If it's clear on clear it would be ok as long you don't have alot of UV(sunlight) darkening of the finish.

I don't even remember why, but I happened to read the ingredients on a bottle of nail polish one day several years ago. "Nitrocellulose" and "laquer" were in there. Guitar touch up!
Ive used it to touch up chips in nitrocellulose laquer finishes.

Nail polish is an excellent choice for touch-ups, even better than automotive touch-up paints since it's much easier to apply. Spot drop, smooth out and buff, restring and play.

Ive applied black nail polish to many a guitar chip. one was a gouge to the wood. put about 40 coats on to make it thick as the paint

My main player is in a limited edition finish called "Gunsmoke Pearl" and it's kind of a smoky silver color. Never seen a nail polish that will match it but I use a bottle of Sally Hansen "Hard As Nails" polish to clear over dings so they don't spread.

i used some red nail polish i stoled from my sister 15 years ago to repair my red jackson... it worked for a while... now it has faded into a different colour and is almost gone... it is under some superglue that i used to fill the chip... it looks funny now...
