I need cables to get rid of these Fender ones :earl: and have come down to these two

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

I use both. About 5 years ago I made my own pedalboard. I am using 2 amps a Fender and a Marshall A/B'd. As you can see this was creating a nightmare of cables and wires. I used the George L cables and a One spot to power the whole setup. This eliminated about 5 wall plugs and eliminated 99% of all the noise associated with crappy cables. Once I had this all wired up I use the Monster cables to connect the Amps to the Pedalboard, and I use a Monster from the board to my guitars. At the time GeorgeL was only available in .155, which are designed as Patch cables. They now have .225 which are designed as instrument cables. I have not tried the heavier, but considering I have used the same cables on my pedalboard since I made it without any trouble, I would think the .225 are going to be sa good if not better. It has been hard to find them here, so that is why I went with monster as well. The only noise you can hear from my Rig is a slight hiss which is the OD channel of the Marshall. The clarity improved dramatically. It was like someone took a blanket off the Amp!! I would say either would be good, but if it were my choice I would go with George L.

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

I use George L's for my pedalboard, and Planet Waves for the cables the connect my guitar to the pedalboard, and the pedalboard to the amp. I have also used Monster Cables and they are great cables. I generally shop for the best quality at the best price. I haven't had any problems with the PW's and I've had them for about 18 months. If I did, I woudl just take it back to GC and get a new one!!!

i use monster jazz cables from the guitar to the amp, my pedal board uses george l's

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

No contest, George L's. Monster cables are way overpriced, and Guitar Player did a shootout a while back and rated George L's the best, while saying that Monster had very high impedence, negatively affecting the tone. As far as instrument (vs. patch) cables, I've had great luck with Horizon and Planet Waves (the Circuit Breaker is a great idea and works well).

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

Personally I would choose Fender Eletrto-Volt of Vintage Voltage, But I voted for Monster Cables because I have been using them for a while now with no problems.

3 cent - What Fender cables do you have? Those California cables seem to be worthless... :smoker:

Why is Spectraflex always overlooked? I don't care for the Monster Cables at all. If it's strictly a choice between these two, I'll vote for George L's, but I'd also recommend the Spectraflex Fatso cables.

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

I took the "hype" plunge and just picked up a set of cables from Lord Valve. He's got some new ultra low capacitance stuff from Italy that he's been raving about. I got Neutrik connectors on the guitar cables (2) and used switchcraft on the speaker cable. I got to pick them up personally while I was in Denver this week. I wonder if my old ears will be able to hear any real difference.

is this backwards? arent neutrik the 'push-n-twist' jobbies used for high current applications (e.g. poweramp -> speaker) and switchcraft (aka 1/4") the standard guitar output jack ?

or am i a total moron?

cheers

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

LV offers either type connector. He definitely prefers the Swithcraft for the speaker wire. The Neutriks are just more heavy duty. Hope I like them.

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

Voodoo cables. I have compared various monster and both guage George L cables. The Voodoo cables have Neutrick 1/4 ends and sound way better. More clarity, gain, girth and less noise. The George L cables have more capacitance in the wire ( resistance) and that makes for less tone. I DO HOWEVER USE GEORGE L CABLES IN MY RACK FOR SUPER SHORT CONNECTIONS ONLY AS i LIKE THE VOODOO 50/50 CORDS FOR EVERYTHING ELSE.

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

Has anybody tried a Mogami cable and compared it with george L's or Voodoo.

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

Why not just get some good connectors, buy quality grade cable in bulk and wire them up to your own length and specs?

You get the quality you want, don't pay for anyones advertising and you get to decide what length you'd like them to be all for probably what half of either of those cables go for.

I'm a George L guy all the way from my guitar, pedals, and over to my amp...The Monster Cables(To me)were darker and lacked the note clarity I always get from the George Ls...George Ls are quick and easy to repair and or change cable lengths on the fly..

I totally dissagree with this statement regarding the George L cables...

"The George L cables have more capacitance in the wire ( resistance) and that makes for less tone".

+1

Chaos helped me spec some Belden cable and I bought some Neutriks plugs. A/B'd the resulting cable with everything else I had, then lent it to my teacher to try. He'd been using a Monster Jazz cable for guitar -> amp, but he asked me to make him two more just like mine the next time I saw him.

The George L pedal board pack is a great deal & works like a champ for short runs. The elbow connectors work fine, but I had problems with the George L straight plugs either going through the outside ground into the cable or not going in far enough. Worked out a method that involved testing with a multimeter - what a pain. YMMV.

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

I use GL's on my pedalboard but wouln't use GLs or Monster between guitar/pedalboard/amp. I don't trust the GLs for that app (cable kinkage + connector wear) and find Monster to be overrated and overpriced.

I use mostly Procos Live Wires but have ordered a couple of cables from Lord Valve. If they're significantly better, I'll replace my Procos with 'em. I suspect that they might be better between the guitar and pedalboard but not much different for the 3 cables between the pedalboard and amp.

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

Planet Waves.... that's all I'm gonna say.

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

really old whirlwind cables, that's all im going to say.

crappy cables contribute alot to tone anyway, unless you have a huge amount of effects. Why do you think that hendrix used a coil-it's convenient, and the resistance gave it a gentler tone!

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

George L's all the way...they are deasy to fix real fat (like on stage in a matter of minutes), they have the best sound IMO, and you can make them as long or a short as you want! I was dupped into paying WAY too much for a moster cabel one time...never again!
