The George L cables have more capacitance in the wire ( resistance) and that makes for less tone.

hmmmm, last time i checked capacitance and resistance were 2 completely different things-capacitance=charge magnitude/voltage
resistance=Voltage/current. In other words, more resistance reduces current (reason why resistors are used in circuits to regulate current),Capacitance has to do with charge storage.

And that's why so many players got incredible tones using coiled wire since they get more resistance!!! More resistance could equate to better tone in more cases than not. Screamingdaisy can testify to this since there was a post a while ago talking about how he liked his tone better when run through a bunch of bypassed pedals better than straight to the amp.

Zaolla silverlines. Best cable I've tried to date. Solid silver conductor, ridiculous shielding, and gold-plated plugs. Very nice cable, but you're gonna pay for it.

Reistance in cables is so low it really doesn't matter. What does matter is capacitance. Check out http://www.guitarnuts.com/technical/cords/index.php

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

I use Bill Lawrence cable on my pedalboard, pretty much exactly the same as George L's. They sound great with less hiss and hum, slightly brighter tone and more clarity. I use Bayou cables from the end of the pedalboard to the amp and from the guitar to the beginning of the pedalboard. Monster suck in comparison ;)

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

I'm a big fan of Planet Waves. I replaced everything with them and there was a good improvement of tone, and there a hell of a lot cheaper than Monster Cables.

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

I use CBI Gold Rush but hear great things about Planet Waves and Voodoo cables.

Re: George L's or Monster cables?

I use some cheap connectors I got for 5 bucks at a local shop about a decade ago. The cables that go from my instrument to my pedals and from my pedals to my amp are Radio Shack connectors and some no-name brand cable I got at MARS Music a bunch of years ago.

I also get plenty of compliments on my tone.

I still maintain that if you can ehar the difference between brands of cables then I'd appreciate you letting me know when the mouse in my backyard lets out a quick cheek-sneak because undoubtedly that would be more tonally noticable than the perceived difference in cables.

You've got to stop feeding that giant mouse baked beans!

BTW these little gizmos from Planet Waves are great for connecting pedals IMHO and not bad cost-wise at 2-for-1 and $15 from Musician's Friend:

All I can say is that A/B your cables with Canare and let me know what you think afterwards ;)

Higher capacitance CAN work wonders on bright amps. Sometimes the more high end that a lower capacitance cable provides doesn't always give the most satisfactory results. I do notice that rolling back some treble and using a lower capacitance cable does give me an overall clearer signal. You really can get a great tone with high capacitance cable and some of our guitar Gods have used them like Jimi Hendrix. Like it or not, we are living in a hi-fi type of musical environment nowadays and there is a high demand for less outside interference with guitar signals.

I'd say you haven't tried low-capacitance cables. I'm not about to debate the tonal merits of alkaline vs. zinc-carbon batteries but I sure as heck can hear the difference between my Live Wires and the low-cap cables I got from Lord Valve.

I will qualify that statement by pointing out that low-cap cables make the biggest difference with unbuffered signals. The difference is quite noticeable between the guitar and amp and pretty minimal with a low impedance signal (e.g., in an FX loop).

Finally, I'll remind you that I didn't say that the low-cap cables sounded better, merely that they sounded different. Depending on your signal chain, it's quite possible that you'd prefer a higher capacitance cable. After all, SRV sure liked POS curly cables.

If we can hear the difference between Alnico 2 and Alnico 5 magnets in our pickups, why is it so unbelieveable that cables make a difference?
