Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

Sounds like a cool pickup that I got in too late for. I've got a PATB-2 - do people think the Crazy8 would work with that as a neck pickup?

Willy.

Yess it would work really fine!Since the PATB-2 and PATB1n is a great combo ,the crazy 8 will be in the same ballpark as PATB1 is.So i assume it will be right for the Neck!

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

This is going to require a completely new, custom guitar. Thanks for spending all my money for me, Evan. :D

Now, who's got the best deal on alder body blanks?

I dont have alder but, I can cut you a deal on 1 peice Purpleheart or a 1 peice ash blank.

I dont have an axe for it either so, I am going to build one around it also.

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

I wonder if Seymour called it "crazy" 8 becasue most people paid way too much attention to specs rather than the sound that they were looking for. I wonder if Seymour said, "WTF are these guys thinking"? LOL! In the surveys I only saw a handful of people even mention a sound. Most seemed way too caught up in specs.

I have no clue how its going to sound and if its going to be good or bad or even fit my taste but, I plan on buying at least one anyway. Seems all of us are in the same boat and are going to buy a "mystery" pickup based on specs alone.

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

What are the odds that SD or MJ will do a couple of test winds and check it out before knocking them all out?

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

With the larger than standard coils of the PA, 13.5K of 42g. might fit. It seemed that a '78 type sound would be appropriate, since that was second in the voting. WHAT DOES IT SOUND LIKE. With the spec.s selected, there are probably a number of great tones available. Overwound Demon/Underwound Custom, Hot/Fat Vintage, Modern Full Shred, etc.

I would think this worked out wel for SD, because it will bring more attention to an under utilized pole piece format that is propriatary. You could make just as many PU's with the PA format as the traditional pole/screw format.

Look at all the people getting/building new guitars just for this pickup. I'll be doing the same thing, too.

Awesome.

As for the voice, a good deal of us seemed to like the idea of the flavor of the '78, only wound hotter, with an A8 and PA bobbins. Maybe that's why they dubbed it the Crazy 8: we crazy dudes have no idea what we're talking about! :laugh2:

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

So here is the important question; who named it? Was this MJ again? I loved the name Brobucker too.

For those of you worrying about how it will sound -- don't. Just let MJ work her magic.

Who needs a guitar to put it in :D. I'll order it first and worry later about finding a guitar for it.

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

my only problem is which guitar to put it in ... which dictates what spacing to go with. I think i'll go standard and Put it in my ESP

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

that's great, but what's the output going to be? will it be hot or not? what about the eq?

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

13.5k i believe is the output, the EQ curve i have no idea.

13.5k is the resistance. i wonder if the output will be moderately-high as i had hoped

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

I think that's the goal. The idea behind being in the neighborhood of 13-14K with an A8 magnet would yield an output somewhere in the neighborhood of the customs, which is why some were preoccupied with this being too much like a Custom 8.

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

It might be time for that custom order Jackson Dinky in mahogany....without pickups, please!

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

I'd like to chime in. Questions that come to mind:

1) What will it sound like?
2) Will there be any parallel axis single coil versions of it? (hint hint)
3) Will it come 4-wire?
4) Can we get it with a matched neck hum bucker (if we get the bridge hum bucker version) at around 7k-ish?

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

Interesting how so many people are wondering now how it will sound, while so many were completely hung up on the specs.
