Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

I've been reading this thread since Evan posted it when I suddenly (and to my horror) realized that I had actually forgotten to post!!!

The first time I read it I was in a hurry and consequently it simply slipped my mind that I hadn't posted yet to say

"Thank you Evan, thank you XXSIVE, THANK YOU MJ and Seymour and thanks to anyone else that made this one possible. I'll definitely get at least one."

Now what I really hope is to have enough money as well as time to be able to order another one if I like it enough!

I imagine it a 78 on steroids or a tighter, less muddy JB and start to drool :D

Thanks everyone!!!

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

thanks Keith...didnt know why i didnt think of it earlier...Maybe a poll should have been made for the logo... but then again not sure if its a feasible idea for seymour duncan to change their logo on the pup

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

With the Brobucker, there was some fairly accurate speculation as to the tonal properties it would have.

I have yet to see any speculation on this pup. I'm interested, but I would like SOME idea what it will do.

Besides, my Parker has non-standard pickups, LesStrat is 3 s/c, but the Ibanez AWD82 might can accommodate this pup.

Any GUESSES? Anyone? Anyone? *Ben Stein voice off*

I don't even know what "parallel axis" MEANS:?:

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

Far as I know, Parallel Axis refers to not having screws or pole pieces, but rather having these little axis, that are side by side.

Or was that not what you were asking?

You'll be sadly disappointed if you expect it to be any thing like that... If anything it's going to be similar to a custom 8, probably thicker, darker and more loose.

But I really don't have a clue, I just know that there's no way it'll be similar to a 78.

What he said.

I have a PATB1 and a PATB2 and I can get them to sound pretty darn similar, so in my mind, I expect the Crazy 8 to sound pretty much like a PATB1, but a bit livelier (less compressed and more open) due to the lower resistance and A8 magnet. How anyone expects this to sound like a '78 is completely beyond me given that it will have absolutely nothing in common with a '78 from a manufacaturing standpoint. If you want something that sounds like a '78, spend a few extra bucks and get a '78! :lmao:

The regular spaced version should work just fine in your Ibanez. The trembucker will work, but the pole spacing will be a little off.

But wasn't the Brobucker just a modified 59/C5 hybrid?

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

I know everyone is asking, whats it sound like??? Id like to know too. However, Im sure MJ and Seymour wont put the proud Seymour Duncan stamp on a turd.. I think it will wow us. If not, there are guys on this forum that will want to try that will buy them later.. Newbies that couldnt order or folks that didnt have $$ at the time. I wont have $$ to get more than one if I can swing that. So ya'll dont sweat it. OR, wait for the first couple to go out and let our brothers give some reviews..

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

bloodrose, evan posted that they don't expect the first ones to get out until the week after the offer ends. (Ends June 15, first shipment in 3rd week of june)

I think I'll buy 2, just in case :D

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

So far we've got seven pages of nuttin...

Nuttin' about what it might sound like anywhoo.

Lots of people asking though... not a bad thing!

Anyone?

Xcessive?!? You were in on this deal dude!!! The point man right!?

Pumped up mids like a Distortion or scooped out like a '59?

Bottom end like a Custom Custom or more like the regular Custom?

Bright like a Screamin' Deamon or 'middle of the road' like anything else in the Duncan line??

Thanx.

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

WHATEVER It sounds Like,...I'll be getting one:D.....it's gonna be cool either way, and of course, Seymour & MJ would NEVER sell us a pickup that didn't sound good....this is their Reputation on the Line ya know:P

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

With me it isn't a matter of if but how many.
I'll be getting at least one, if I like it enough I'll be getting an additional one and if I don't make it in time for the offer (which seems like I won't) then who gives a damn, be it second hand from a fellow forumite or 170$ then that's how it's gonna be.

Above all it's a privilege, a gift from the good people of SD to all of us and I am not gonna miss it!

Thank you guys!!!

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

I could handle darker. Most of my axes are brighter than I prefer. A darker pickup could be an improvement.

I also know that MJ has magic hands.

But a bright sounding pickup is of no use to me. That's why I asked.

I dunno about that.

There's at least a handful or two of Duncan pickups that sound like poo & are pretty useless IMO.

I still like 'em more then DiMarzios on the average.

I'm interested in this pickup... but I'd like to have some idea of the tonal qualities or lack thereof before I order one or two...

Being able to "compare" the Crazy 8 to a known quantity would be most kool.

Then again, if it REALLY wasn't for me I'm sure it'd be easy to flip.
