Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

Well, we can hypothesize a few things...
Firstly, I assume that if the custom shop sticks to the 13.5k range, they'll be using 43 AWG wire, which means that the wind will be brighter and less hot than a custom, think of a brighter custom 8. Because it's a PA, I assume that it will be much more smooth than a Custom 8, but I think that the voicing, overall, won't be to far away from a custom 8. It may 'sing' more in the upper registers, and it may be a bit less tight on the bottom, but it should end up being essientally an underwound custom 8. However, if they choose to use 42 AWG wire, It will be considerably darker, maybe too much so, but then again, I don't know how PA bobbins respond to different winds, so take this with a grain of salt, its an educated guess.

Coming at it from the other direction, a Screamin Demon is reputed to have 43g wire, so it could be seen as an overwound SD.

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

I'm in regardless of the tone. I love the Brobucker and I'm thinking it might make a good neck pup to go along witht the Crazy 8...

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

Because it has an A8 mag, it's going to be fairly balanced regardless of the wind (just look at the difference in tone between all of the customs, and that's just because of the magnet). However, when you look at the customs, none of them are very bright. In addition, when you look at the screamin demon, people complain about the icepick highs, but a lot of that is the hex screws, people who replace them say that the pickup is much more balanced w/ all fillisters. So, with a wind closer to the customs than the demon, it should be like a dark, overwound demon w/ the PA poles. Also, from what I hear about the PA 'poles' is that the high frequencies are very smooth and sing-y, and all the PAs use either ceramic or A5 mags. So, I think the pickup will be more articulate than the average custom, but darker and more smooth than average demon. Overall, when I think about it, it sounds better than I originally thought.

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

SD/MJ may need to do a pole, if they come up with several variations. Look how many PAF variations there are with fairly similar specs.

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

i dont think seymour or mj wants to do a pole, this isnt a secks forum, i doubt they will do a poll either. im sure whatever they come up with will be a great pup

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

I know I'm not alone in the opinion that we don't need any more freaking polls. We've had our fair share of polls regarding the makeup of this pickup, let's call it done and move on.

It's no longer time for us to be creative. We've done our duty, now let's hand the masters our ideas and let them do what they do best.

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

Let me rephrase that. Could do a survey because of the possible variations. I'm sure he doesn't "need" to.

Re: Get Yer Custom Shop Crazy 8!!!

Let me too add that we gave more than enough specs and had more than our share of polls, (you know we are still grateful for all your work XXESIVE, right?) I think we should leave enough creative license to the artists to make what they think is best, otherwise there wouldn't be much of a "Seymour Duncan" left in it...

Right now I feel the best part of waiting is see how Seymour and MJ will translate those specs and give them a magnificent voice!!!

With this many polls I'm surprised the name "Diebold" didn't surface. Remember the 2000 elections? haha.
