To be honest, when i was thinking of buying HT-5 i was only think about how it's good for heavy/thrash metal and some hard rock... and i wanted some more tube sounding amp, beside i had only couple of tranzistor Cubes and i get rid of it... so i have played that Combo with 1x 10 speaker for about 5 months, mostly punk-rock, hard rock, thrash, early heavy metal.. i can say i almostly forgot of mine more blues, vintage rock side music interests..
i almostly play my two high output humbucking guitars, copies of LP and SG, and i fall into some serious heavy riffage stuff madness... just those two guitars, riffs, hitting solos, high gain, boosted with bad monkey, and Noise Supressor pedal to handle unwanted noise of really hi gain stuff.. and the strat just didn't sound right at any setting with the internal 1x 10 speaker... then, after five months of serious hi gain riffing i bought external Orange 1x 12 cab with Vintage 30 in it, and try a strat and i can say it's a bomb for it, such more warmer, and powerful sounds... so i get into that blues, vintage rock type of music again. the thing is, Vintage 30 speaker add more low end to the sound, the amp sounds now more warm, and strat sounds the way better with it. well done, but i still miss some more vintage sounds from that HT-5. i am experimenting now, playing some vintage stuff, with bad monkey over the clean channel i almost perfectly nail some early cream, eric clapton stuff.. but want more headroom on overdrive channel, it distorts to early.. so, for now i am experimenting with od pedal over clean channel and some low gain settings of amp. the thing is, i already think about getting some more vintage style amp like Blackheart Little Giant, or Vox AC 4 TV.
But someone mentioned me that there is also MXR Equalizator pedal to help increase the desired low gain setting volume, and add some air to clean channel... so, what do you think which choice is better ? i also want to nail some early Sabbath tones, as well as Doors, Free, Boston, The Who etc... with humbuckers.. i think about getting new vintage pafs for LP guitar, as it will somehow help to get to this zone. so, MXR EQ pedal and some new humbuckers for LP... i have that amp for playing at home only... if everyone have some suggestion of better choices, please write some.. amp itself, as i said has gorgeus heavy tone, and with 1x12 cab with vintage 30 in a done the first step to somehow improve the headroom of clean and overdrive channel, but i still need an od pedal to adjust volume to higher levels.
Anyway, i will experimenting for now, maybe buy an Eq pedal, some lower output Paf humbuckers for now... something really pushes me into more vintage rock music, i can't help
