"GFS" Guitar Fetish P'ups?

Howdy Duncan believers. I think that I can finally get an answer about "Guitar Fetish" and their pickups here. I believe that we get what we pay for. What better forum to find out about pickups than here? Does anyone have any personal experience with these? Thanks & Peace. Rednefceleb.

Re: "GFS" Guitar Fetish P'ups?

ive played a few and they are fine for the money. i havent pulled out any duncans to put gfs in though, if ya know what i mean

Re: "GFS" Guitar Fetish P'ups?

I've had a few sets and honestly, I'd be more likely to plunk out similar money for a Duncan Designed, were I in the market for $40-ish new pups.

Re: "GFS" Guitar Fetish P'ups?

I think it depends as with most pickup companies they have their good and bad pickups

they have some great ones, especially for the money. All things considered they are a great value even when they aren't great pickups, what else do you have to buy at that price point brand new?

Re: "GFS" Guitar Fetish P'ups?

There's a couple of guys on here who think they're great.

I don't think they actually gig with them though, which maybe says a lot.

Re: "GFS" Guitar Fetish P'ups?

My friend has had several sets of their higher end strat pickups. For the money they are good, but they are not on the same level as Duncans as far as sound or quality. He has replaced some with Duncans and Fender CS

Re: "GFS" Guitar Fetish P'ups?

My only experience with GFS is with the Mean 90 which is a very good hummer-sized P-90. I have two of them in guitars. Not only good for the $$, but just plain good.

I admit that I like the P-90 in the SD P-Rails a little bit better, but the GFS is pretty darn good.

Re: "GFS" Guitar Fetish P'ups?

I prefer the Lollar SCH to the Phat Cat or the P-Rail and consequently the Mean 90 from GFS in my PRS Santana SE.

Re: "GFS" Guitar Fetish P'ups?

of course comparing a Lollar that sells for $135 to a GFS that sells under $50 isn't really a fair comparison

Re: "GFS" Guitar Fetish P'ups?

They're mainly attractive to me because of some of their designs. The Brighton Rock, the soapbar-sized humbuckers, lipstick tube humbuckers, Bigmouth/Loudmouth, Minitron, NYII surface mounts, etc. But like you, I feel that I will probably get what I pay for, so I haven't got any yet.

I've gigged with my VEH. I would have gigged with my Texas Greybottom loaded Strat were I in a band since I built it.

Plenty of guys over at Harmony Central Electric Guitar (to differentiate that subforum from the other crowds) gig with GFS pickups all the time. Atrox says his favorite Tele neck pickup EVER is the Fatbody.

Plenty of good stuff for the money from them.

Well for $40ish pickups, I'm going with Dragonfire. They basically make cheapo versions of popular pickups (EMG 81 85 set goes for $200. A Dragonfire set of their "81" and "85" with gold covers? $80 bucks.). They don't have a JB as far as I know, but they do make some great pickups, and for the money, you can't go wrong.

Ive tried several and have taken them all out. Just not my taste at all.

The Dragonfire 81 and 85 are great pickups. Not identical to EMGs, but close enough.

I'm pretty sure that Dragonfire's passive line is made by Artec (as are GFS and Guitarheads), so there's some overlap there. I made a hybrid using a GFS 59 and Guitarheads Megametal and it's an awesome pickup.

For GFS pickups, the VEH and the PATs are awesome. I've used the PAT with A5 (Fat PAT), Ceramic (Crunchy PAT) and also swapped in an A8. I've also swapped an A8 into a VEH, that sounded great too.

Artec may make all their pickups but the models are separate designs.

It's kinda like how the same factory in Japan used to make Fernandes and MIJ Fenders back in the '90s.

Re: "GFS" Guitar Fetish P'ups?

Mean 90's have gotten the most consistent favorable comments here. The others have been spotty.
