"Gibson Dependable"

Re: "Gibson Dependable"

his rating system is pretty silly. If I was looking at any item, Id want to know exactly what the flaw is on that particular item. alot of overlapping in his system. It should either be mint, very good, good, poor. sounds like he is trying to make everything sound better than it probably is. This guitar is fair mint. it is pretty beat up, but has a mint pickguard......

Re: "Gibson Dependable"

Although the wording is obviously his marketing tactic, I can understand his grading system. He's someone who doesn't deal with C, D, and F level gear....only things that look new. So his grading system is basically subdividing the A's and B's. In a way, I actually like his system, because I know what degree of mint he's talking about. Rather than just stating it's "mint," he's letting the anal retentive buyer know exactly what to expect.

Now this is a mint guitar

Yah I'm in the boat that there is only one "mint" which means nothing wrong with it. Seller is a ****** for making up his grading system but there is no shortage of douchbaggery on ebay.

Re: "Gibson Dependable"

I've always wondered if these used parts sellers end up selling all their popular parts, then get stuck with box upon box of undesirable parts. And since nobody wants that stuff, it eats into their overall profit.

Re: "Gibson Dependable"

I just received a AVRI Strat body and trem from them.

Can't say I am too thrilled. Extremely dirty, disgustingly so and I just re-checked the photos, it isn't visible. They went through the trouble of removing the plug from the plate and putting the plate back on, same for pickguard, and it's all assorted unidentified original owner fluids there. There are some paint flakes off around the neck pocket, also not visible.

This is probably not their fault, but the trem has a non-magnetic coated block. It looks like it is from that AVRI and the saddles do match, I think this is the risk you take when jumping on a "too early" AVRI. Well at least Fender is in the business of making guitars better over time, as opposed to a major competitor...

Re: "Gibson Dependable"

Too funny - I don't even remember starting this thread.

I do often wonder how "Gibson Dependable" and the "Stratosphere" type sellers acquire all their gear. A friend of mine thinks they have deals with Fender and Gibson on the side. I think they probably have deals with music stores to sell stuff outside of the store (used gear and also new stuff) to avoid issues with Fender/Gibson and selling licenses.
