Gibson Double-Diamond Line

So I guess Gibson is putting diamonds in their guitars now.

From the Gibson Facebook page:

Huge waste of time and money in my opinion. Who seriously has enough disposable income for these? I can hardly afford an LP Standard as it is.

Re: Gibson Double-Diamond Line

I was just about to post about this. It's obviously not for the average player. Purely a collector's item, which is apparently the only demographic Gibson caters to anymore. I'd much rather see their time and money put into making actual improvements in design and playability of their guitars instead of making the maximum buck off its customers.

Re: Gibson Double-Diamond Line

If they released these with just the snazzy pin striping and no diamonds, I'd totally go for an explorer or midtown.

Re: Gibson Double-Diamond Line

I'll put it on my full sized Greek statue I have in my front yard. That'll show them how rich and classy I am.

Yup thats definitely for a Lawyer or Doctor to hang on their wall. Me personally if I can't gig with it then ill probably won't be buying it.

While I agree in principle, there`s somethiong people always love to forget.

Gibson is a BUSINESS, not a charity.

They are not doing this (or anything else, for that matter) to "please" anyone. They are, like every other business in the world, making and advertising what they think will sell, which they do with the intent of earning money, which if successful means they live another day and can sell more.

I never see anyone bashing the PRS Private Stock Models or the Dragons back in the day, which are essentially the EXACT same thing. But Gibson, unlike PRS, can not build a single thing and take a picture of it without half the Internet calling them Satan for it, positively or negatively, usually both.

How does the saying go again, something like "You know you`re truly successful when people you don`t even know hate you for everything you do". ;)

I like the V but that is it... And I would rather buy a '68 reissue

+1. Haterz gonna h8z.

I really don't get the hate for trying to make money. Blues laywers have it and Gibson wants it. What's the problem here? Isn't Gibson now making a bunch of more affordable guitars? They have to have stuff for all price ranges.

Getting pissed at Gibson for making these is like getting pissed over gay marriage.

Re: Gibson Double-Diamond Line

I really like the pin-striping (I even liked it on the N-225, although I'm probably the only person that likes that model...)).

But the diamonds and glitter? No, I'm not into that Vajazzle lark.

You should check out the entire 2014 model line. They have done just what you are talking about. There is a lot of new/refinements, and even the $450 dollar melody maker is gtting the full PLEK treatment. Name another company doing that on their budget guitars.

I'll echo that sentiment. They've just released (or will soon?) those LPj and SGj and melody makers and whatnot. They have USA instruments well below a grand that, I like to assume, will be playable and sound good. Why is it this bad to also reach the opposite end of the spectrum?

Kids who want a gibson for little money can now do it easier than ever. Why can't fancy people with lots of cash do the same?

Would I consider one? No. Do I care? same answer. Do I think they're dumb/stupid/evil for doing it? No again.

But that's just me...

Re: Gibson Double-Diamond Line

I thought this was going to be a bash fest for Gibson, but I'm actually happy to see that some people are defending Gibby.

FTR,
i'd probably buy one of those explorers if I could afford it.

Re: Gibson Double-Diamond Line

I saw these last night on facebook and I don't they are something to be defended or not defended.

I think "people who like guitars" will love these and I also think that any MUSICIAN worth their salt would first ask: "What are the tonal advantages of this?"

There are none and it is purely aesthetic. I happen to think the aesthetics of the explorer and the flying V are cool as F#ck.

It's important to remember that the most amazing guitar driven albums of all time were recorded with instruments that had no diamonds on them.

So yeah...ya either like them or you don't. Having worked for Gibson for a time, I am STILL of the opinion that the suits need to get their heads out of their @$$es and make...let's say...a Four knob flying V with a floyd and and a bound fretboard that doesn't have somebody else's colors all over it.

Either way, these diamond things are a way better idea than mandatory standard min-Etune.
