I mentioned a used Heritage Cherry Flying V I found for under $1000.00 to my luthier and he said it can't be a real Flying V cuz the price is so cheap. I also always thought that the Flying V was a much more expensive guitar.

So what gives?

Re: Gibson Flying V for $1199.00?

No, the Flying V is a cheap guitar in the Gibson line.

Also, Heritage is a different company, although owned by Gibson.

Re: Gibson Flying V for $1199.00?

No sarcasm please. Why is the Heritage Cherry Flying V selling for only $1200.00?

I think he means "Heritage Cherry" is the color. Not the company Heritage.

Re: Gibson Flying V for $1199.00?

1200 is a bit much for a used flying V actually. Your luthier is out of touch on his gibson pricing.

Re: Gibson Flying V for $1199.00?

You can buy new Vs for under a grand, so why would anyone pay $1200 for a preowned HC?

Correct, looks like he means the color. But, FWIW, the Heritage Guitar Co. is NOT owned by Gibson. It is owned by "former" Gibson employees.

Re: Gibson Flying V for $1199.00?

Yep, I see them going on eBay with a case for $750, $850...

Re: Gibson Flying V for $1199.00?

The new price is $1200.00. I found a used one in the $800.00 category. Okay.

Re: Gibson Flying V for $1199.00?

That's normal price for a V or Explorer. They're only $1,400 new, and that's after the price hikes of the past 5 years.

Re: Gibson Flying V for $1199.00?

The question is WHICH Flying V??

If it's a new V in Heritage Cherry then $1200 is too high...

If it's a Heritage series V that happens to be cherry then it's the steel of a life time...

Off topic and to uOpt...get your facts straight.

Heritage is not now and has never been owned by Gibson...

Re: Gibson Flying V for $1199.00?

Right. Heritage is a company by ex Gibson people, right? Sorry.

Re: Gibson Flying V for $1199.00?

Gibson used to have a faded series Flying V which sold for around $700.00 a few years back. So your friend obviously doesn't know what he's talking about.

Re: Gibson Flying V for $1199.00?

$1199 new is sticker price and IMO still too high, you can get them cheaper than that new.

Likewise, IMO $1000 is too much for a used one. $800 is more reasonable.

I'm a V fan and have owned a bunch and a white one is currently my #1.

Nice grain on that one. Faded are great V's, cheaper and perfect for modding.

Re: Gibson Flying V for $1199.00?

A standard V. which is much higher grade than fadeds and will sound tons better, is 1199.00. But you can get discounts. Thats a bargian , lke SG's, and sure to go up a few hundred in the future.
Given the relative bargian of the 1200.00 V's, i highly suggest saving for one instead ofcompromising and going the route of the much cheaper constructed fadeds. IMO fadeds are NOT great V's.
