Gibson Glass Door

Re: Gibson Glass Door

Not surprised at all.

And that's part of the reason I cannot rationalize a $1500+ investment in a new Gibson.

Re: Gibson Glass Door

Wow I never knew that Gibson was that bad. I mean I always heard people say the quality was lacking from long ago but never knew how true it was but Ive never played a Les Paul I was always a Strat guy who loves Humbuckers an beefed up single coils. I always wondered why the price on Gibsons were so outrageously high. I might of thought of buying one down the road if I ever had enough but after reading that no I would never shell out that kind of money for any Gibson product at least not while Henry is the CEO. I would rather pay a master builder the same money to build me one Or bought the parts from Warmoth but since Gibson sued them I have to find another place.

Re: Gibson Glass Door

Unfortunately this is nothing new. Dealers and employees have been talking this for years.

One day the company will be sold, or Henry will die. Only then will there be change.

Re: Gibson Glass Door

Yep. I'm honestly surprised that Gibson went after Warmoth and left Precision alone, seeing as Precision makes way more accurate replicas, right down to the neck join and headstock shape.

Gibson is le fuct.

Re: Gibson Glass Door

Only thing is I would rather have them paint an finish it. I can finish a neck but I would rather just have who ever I buy it from do it. Plus I want the vol knobs put in a diff spot I would want them closer to the bridge like on a strat and I think that would require changing the route position. I know Warmoth probably could have done it .

Re: Gibson Glass Door

That doesn't seem any different than any big company that I've ever worked for in my life.

Word. It sucks for the people who had terrible working experiences there, but it's still not gonna stop me from buying a Gibson if I love the guitar....

Re: Gibson Glass Door

I work for one of the largest dairy product companies in the world, and the story isn't all that different.

What can I say? I'm sad but unsurprised to read what the Gibson folks have to say.

Re: Gibson Glass Door

I'm not defending Gibson's upper mgt, but I wonder how many of you could keep an American company, forced to deal with Asian competition, doing well in a recession/depression. Let's see how nice it is to work in a Chinese or Korean guitar factory.

They probably work the same long and unfair hours for 1/5 the paycheck.

Re: Gibson Glass Door

I have to wonder about:

- the motivations of the people who post on this site
- the fact that we don't get to hear the other side of the story
- how (if at all) this site can verify you actually worked for said company

Re: Gibson Glass Door

I'm still surprised prs didn't put gibby out of business in the 80's. If the timing had been just a little different, they really could have absorbed gibbys place in the market.

Re: Gibson Glass Door

I guess that is another reason to think twice about buying a Gibson. I don't know how true all of this is, but the word has sure been around for quite a while. Guess if I buy Gibson it will be used so the company doesn't see my money. That, or I can keep on building. Just I love the new SGJ so it will be hard to 'boycott'.

Re: Gibson Glass Door

Well, I'm still going to buy Gibson guitars. People are always going to be unhappy with the way things are if it's not their way. Every person working at that shop could think of a different way to make a guitar than the way they are being made. In guitars there are so many different factors to take it, from the way they're built to what they're built from. A guy working there could disagree with how it's being done and cause him to be unsatisfied. I love the products they put out, and will continue to enjoy them.

Re: Gibson Glass Door

I won't trash Gibson, I'll let my wallet do the talking. However, I was stunned to find out how low they paid back in the 80's.
