Gibson Guitars Prices

Re: Gibson Guitars Prices

Subject pretty much beaten to death, still I have a few cents. Gibson's pricing is really goofy. Fancy Guitars like the Lucille are cheaper than a 335. Guitars with little differences sometimes have huge $ differences, LP Standard vrs Reissue 59 etc. They make some OK guitars for the money, depends on how exacting you want to be. Historic Custom Shop = $$$, but you asked for it!
One other point: We're such a spoiled bunch of consumerist dwebs! What ever happened to buying a good guitar and playing and cherishing it for life? As I look around my ample collection of guitars I know that if I was really good all I would need is one. However, since I'm not I'll settle for my collection.

Re: Gibson Guitars Prices

Buy s/h or from a reputable dealer. Yes, it's a shame that Gibson's QC isn't what it could be, but in the end nothing sounds quite like the genuine article. I'll eventually own one. To this day, the best new guitar I've ever played was a Gibson, and I'm much more of a PRS/fender guy in terms of personal taste. Credit where it's due: when they get it right, they really nail it.

As for the prices... well personally it's just a matter of doing some homework but there ain't no way in hell I'm paying $2K for an LP standard.

Apparently not. ;)

Well, considering you can find fantastic used Gibson Historic Reissues for well under 2,000, I'd look there first. In fact, new 57RI I just bought was $1995.

Gotta go in that direction if you ask me, or as Jolly said a few days ago, buy used. I had a really nice ebony Standard that was a few years old, bought it for $1000. Great deal, some bucklerash on the back.

I'll try to stay out of this discussion from here on out. I probably don't know what I'm talking about anyway. :smack:

Re: Gibson Guitars Prices

More LP's for me. The 57 RI is my next stop, unless I find a great deal on a 58 RI figure top like Scotts....wanna sell that one Scott?

Re: Gibson Guitars Prices

I love LP's ... from the day that I saw Page lift it over his head I though "i gotta have one of those."

They are just a thing of beauty.
