Re: Gibson Moderne on Ebay, the debate: Is it Real?
Ok...I'll tell you what I see from the pics...
-I have never seen a Gibson Moderne with that Pickguard, an Ibanex yes, a Gibson no!
-That grain does not look like Limba to me, it looks more like stained ash...Ibanez did use ash for some of theis V's and Explorers.
-the headstock is wrong as is the placement of the tuning keys, as well as the "string retainers" are all wrong
-Gibson put gold, not chrome on all the Korina guitars, and non of the Gibson reissues of anykind use chrome, if it's not gold it's nickle...that guitar has chrome hardware.
-That Gibson logo came from a Gibson amp, the Modernes has a Gold logo.
-The FIRST Moderne "re-issue" happened in late 1982, they built 3 of them for Howard Leese (Heart), they prototyped those guitars early in 1982...in fact if you look at my avatar, 3 of the 4 Modernes pictured there are the real protptype Modernes.
-It does NOT have late 50's style strap buttons
-there are no numbers or markings of ANY kind on the guitar, except for the incorrect Gibson logo.
-The neck pickup ring should touch the end of the fretboard, it does not
I have seen and played (and almost bought) an Ibanez Moderne, and that is one! Look for a pic of an Ibanez Moderne and you will see all the same things that are wrong with that guitar on an Ibanez.
